p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · What are your two (Canon) bodies?

When I walk around an environment where I may have a variety of different types of shots, I currently carry:

7dii with 100-400ii (1.4iii TC as option)
6d with 24-70ii

So one crop with long reach and high speed capabilities for capturing critters, and one full frame for capturing low light portraits, landscapes, etc.

For people who like having two bodies at the ready, what are your choices and why?

Two 6D, with 16-35/4L IS, 24-70/4L IS, and 70-200/2.8L IS II between them. Plus, a 1DIV + 100-400L IS II, on the side.

My light travel kit is evolving towards a pair of SL2 (from SL1 + X-E2), with EF-S lenses, plus some small prime lenses on the side.

Two Canon 5D MkIIs, one of them converted with 715 nm IR filter. No intention to upgrade to never DSLRs, this train has left long ago for me.

5d III with 16 35 f4 for real estate. Used primarily to keep clicks off my 5DIV.

5D IV for almost everything else, which is varied shooting. Used with primarily 400 DO II , 100 400 II, 24 70II or 70 200II.

Occasionally use an SL1 with 55 250, & 22 and 40 pancake for times that photo's are not my main purpose. This makes a small versatile kit when I don't want to be bothered by size and weight.

5D + 100 f/2 .. 1DsII and 300 f/4L IS

Don't shoot video .. Don't take shots in the dark .. Like the "big" pixels that came standard with these 2 bodies .. and they've been paid for for years ..

I use a 7D2 with a 100-400 II. That lens is almost glued to it. My 6D usually has a 24-70 IS or lately, the 40 STM on it.

1Ds2 and 1D3 for me.

Just traded in my 24Lll and 501.2 for used Zeiss Otus 28 and Otus 55. Enjoying manual focus and want to concentrate on landscapes, environmental portraits and travel.

Looking to upgrade to higher res full frame body next when used prices on current gen get sensible. Torn between 5D4, 5Dsr, 1dx or 1dx2

5D3 with 24-105 and 5D4 with 100-400 II or 16-35 f4 or other FF lens. For important scenery. Or just 5D4 + lenses + G1X for air tourism. My wife brings the SL1 kit.

80D with Sigma 100-400 or 70-200 f4 and 15-85 or swap 15-85 for SL1 kit or G1X (which weigh the same as 15-85) for dog shows, zoo, other casual.

I like having a tele body and normal range body easily accessible if I can afford the weight.

5DIV with 100-400II and a 5DsR with 24-105L, more often than not.
I'll usually tailor that, depending on where/what I expect to shoot. I seldom carry more than three lenses and hardly ever carry a third body.
I carry a different set up for wildlife, more often than not my 500 & 100-400 on the same bodies.

5DIV and 5DII; their controls are sufficiently similar that I don't need a big context switch when swapping between them.

I usually have a fast-ish prime on the 5DIV (which I intend to use whenever possible) and a zoom on the 5D2 (often the 24-105, which I use to cover the situations where the prime doesn't cut it). Saves lens changes in adverse conditions.

As a editorial photographer, I always buy two identical bodies when I upgrade (at present, two 5D IV). There are several reasons for this:

One, you don't get in the annoying situation of deciding which body/lens combo to use for that key shot.

The color, contrast and IQ is matched across the assignment. as is the post processing.

You don't get in a situation of fumbling a setting when the pressure is on. All the menus and controls are identical. Even the grips and batteries can be swapped out if something craters.

I can see the argument of getting a crop sensor camera for something like sports, but I prefer to just buy full-frame everything and be done with it. I normally carry a 70-200 f/2.8L IS II and 16-35 f/4L IS on two bodies, but this varies according to the assignment.

6D with either 24-105-F4L, 16-35-F4l, or both.

Used to be 6D for "everything + EOS M(1) + 22mm pancake for carrying in my messenger bag 24/7.

The M was replaced by a Fuji X-E2 ~2 years ago, the 6D was replaced by a 5DSR 4-5m ago. I would not mind consolidating back to Canon with a M5, but I cannot justify its current price and I would also like a wider selection of compact primes for the EF-M mount (despite the 22mm being probably sufficient for my needs).

1d4 + 70-200 2.8
6d + 16-35 2.8

I also have a 1ds2 that I'll use in place of the 6d if I'm shooting action in good light.
