I wish I can afford to own a copy of the diminutive GM and Pen-F in addition to my workhorse E-M1.2.

EM1 Mk II, PEN-F, GM1 & GM5. I use mostly the Olympus, the GM1 is only for underwater and the GM5 is the camera I have with me when I go to work "just in case".
Love the small GM sometimes when I travel, go to a restaurant, etc. The rest of the time, the PEN-F is small enough.

Voted - E-M1 with a couple of lenses. Truth be told, however, this is my "fun, snapshot, and lightweight kit", as my primary system is Fuji X.

Compared to other equipment such as Canon/Nikon FF DSLR or even worse Leica, I find the u43 camera and lenses to be a bargain.
And I've always bought more than I use because I cannot restrain myself

GAS is a bitch, isn't it?

Not the newest thread but fun anyways

So, having thought of adding Nikon as a long telephoto system as well as staying put in m43 camp with the addition of the E-M1.2 I today instead tried, and finally ordered Panasonic GH5 in order to test it at home before deciding on it. One thing that speaks against it though is the fact that Panasonic is about to announce a new "stills oriented" camera and I am hoping we'll get some real and true "rumors" before I have to make the choice to keep it or not. What pushed me to order it rather than the E-M1.2 which is more similar to my E-M1?

The fact that it is NOT similar. In fact, the GH5 feels like a mini-Nikon D700 or D500. They have knobs and dials for most important things which I love, I have never gotten real comfortable with having to press a button and turn a dial to change settings with the Olympus (with my eye to the viewfinder). The GH5 felt really good in my hand, very ergonomic and perfectly balanced with a great build quality (like the E-M1, I do not agree with digiloyds thoughts there).

Also, a better viewfinder, better screen and two UHS-II slots rather than just one also added to the feel that I get more camera for the money. I feel Olympus "skimped" on several upgrades such as the screen and the evf. Not saying I won't change the GH5 for the E-M1.2 though, we'll see

But it will be interesting to test and see how it feels! What makes me doubt the choice of GH5 over E-M1.2 is VERY high speed shooting in RAW and the hi-res mode... choices... too many choices.

There have been interesting developments in my studio over the last two weeks. I mentioned that we have a GH3 and three G6 bodies and that I was thinking of adding a Oly to the mix for its IBIS; well, no longer.

We have been using the Panny bodies in a multi-cam setup: you shoot three or four cameras simultaneously, and take the footage off their cards, and sync with separately recoded in Final Cut Pro 10. When we got the new switcher, I assumed (and we all know how that goes) that because the G6 bodies had HDMI ports, that they wold send HDMI out when in movie mode. Not so; those HDMI ports are only for connecting a consumer camera to a TV and playing back stills and video to it...

So, all three are on ebay now, and I have bought two more GX85 bodies.

And I did buy an Oly OMD EM10 mk ii—but although it has excellent stabilisation and clean HMDI out, it has usability flaws that mean it literally cannot be used in a live video situation. For example, if connected to the switcher via HDMI, the menus cannot be accessed... meaning that to set anything, the camera has to be disconnected (and have you seen how tiny those plugs are), new setting made, and re-plugged in. You cannot see the effects of any changes live and when you are trying to colour balance a group of cameras, that is essential. No post production colour correction, either, in the live to disk situation: you have to get it right 'on the night' as they say.

So, the Oly is up on ebay too, and two more GX85s on their way (local GX85s still feature the idiotic PAL/NTSC divide; at least the Oly has all frame rates). The video our of these bodies is excellent and they are perfectly fine to use in a studio situation. The viewfinders are not great, but we see everything via hi-def monitors in our setup, so no problem.

The GX85 does have two-stop stabilisation in the body, and any stabilised lenses' stabilisation effect can be added to this; I believe the best is 3–4 stops. Not in Oly territory, but very useful. I need one of those 12–35/2.8 lenses, but can't afford one right now. I think with one of those, set around 15–20, then hand-held video will be very useful.

@Wilbus: I had not heard of this stills oriented Panny—do you have any rumours, even? Definitely interested.

@Kit Laughlin thanks for info about the studio and GX85 and the other bodies, always interesting to hear the actual reasons someone buys, or sells the cameras.

As far as the rumoured GH5 stills oriented camera I have no more info then what has been up on 43rumors.com which is more or less this. It is known that Panny will announce a "high end stills oriented camera" which was first believed to be the GX8 replacement, thus the GX9. However, more and more info has come up suggesting that Panasonic will take the "Sony road" and use the GH5 for different purposes. Such as the current GH5 is very much specialised in movies but with very good stills capability and the rumoured new will be good for movies but very much specialised in stills more in the line of the E-M1 Mk II but retain more or less the current GH5 body.

This is the reason I doubt my order for the GH5 yesterday, I would probably be better served but a more stills oriented camera as I don't do much/any video. On the other hand I am looking to start doing some video but for my skill with video any of the recent m43 cameras is more then good enough.

I did try the GH5 in store yesterday and like I said, the camera felt fantastic in my hand. Knobs and dials as I want, superb EVF although the E-M1.2 is closer in real life then it is on paper. I suspect that the E-M1.2's EVF may very well work better for high burst shooting but we'll see when I have a chance to try it. I will most likely try and let the GH5 sit in its box for as long as I can and wait for some real info on the new Panny.

Late to the game here. I already had two EMII bodies and just ordered a Pen-F to replace my Fuji X100F that I never used. I was thinking about changing the Fuji to a XE-3 for more versatility but that would just mean getting GAS for more Fuji glass and I already have tons of Olympus lenses.

The other Olympus bodies never appealed to me and for some reason Panasonic and I don’t get along. I can’t get comfortable with their cameras.

I still have a Canon kit as well, but dumped my Sony A kit. Canon will go when the Olympus is fast enough for all BIF.

Had a GX85 for a month, just sold it to fund a GH5. Mostly for the video aspect (anything important stills wise I still shoot my D800e) but I find that it takes pretty good stills as well when paired with the 12-35. I'm waiting to see if they replace the GX8 with something interesting as I still want a smaller body than the GH5 for some things.
