p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Arizona big sky

Monsoon big sky in southern Arizona. Rain belt can be seen moving every second. Rivers form on roads, the desert floods too.

Nice sequence. My first time driving in Arizona in August I was surprised to learn how hard and how quickly the rains came. Stay safe.

Thanks Dave, there is the driving experience, and the "is it really raining" experience while away from car. If the sky is not all covered up above you, it may just be 15 minutes of real rain.

First comes the wind out of nowhere, suddenly dark skies, little rain, big rain. Over soon. Most of the time. Instead of 100 degrees it's 80, 70. Anticipating vs reacting... 1 hour after sunrise, tiny clouds, then a tiny bit of fog shows on part of a smaller mountain. The fog grows, covers the whole mountain, then grows... and grows, and whole east side of the sky is in deep fog. And in half an hour, no fog at all, no sign of it.

Nice series. I especially like the "God Beams" in #4.

Excellent set! So nice too see some compositions that focus on the sky instead of trying to always cram in some underfoot foreground as well. Your approach here renders a much more realistic look than the distorted UWA view.

3 is my fave... I think it really encompasses the expanse of space in the south west. It also makes me feel small knowing (possibly) how large of a space that is.

Bravo!

Reminds me of a few experiences while training as an Army Ranger at Ft. Huachuca(1967) in the Huachuca Mts. The rain, clouds..etc made for beautiful scenery but lousy training then but the worse was yet to come!
