p.1 #11 · p.1 #11 · D810 price at 2014 announcement vs today's D810 price | |
Original MSRP of the D810 was $3,299.95 - same as the D800E when it was introduced.
I paid $2,995 in December, 2015
By the middle of 2016 a new USA version could be bought for $500 less than original MSRP, or $2,796.95
I'd expect that same scenario as far as price. It's Nikon's way. First mover price, then a small $300 reduction for holidays, then a free grip or something, then it will go back up to around $2,995 for the bulk of the sales. Then drop to $2,700 or $2,800 for the remainder of the camera life.

Does it really matter? Depreciation is depreciation, and there are many factors that decide the amount, be it cameras, cars, computers, or whatever. Why believe what you read in one article
The question only matters if it's answered correctly. There are people on the board and elsewhere that like to rewrite history. So they want you to believe that MSRP has dropped by 33% within twelve months, which it didn't. And of course they can never prove it, they just say it. And then they try and make you feel that you're a fool if you had bought a camera body new (Although you got two years of use out of the new technology). Then, after two or three or four years they get around to finally buying something, and then can't stop crowing like a little red rooster about how much money they saved by waiting three years to get a D800E or something. For many of them I think it's more about their savings than photography since I rarely see them ever post any pictures. Instead every post is about how they never buy new, just used, regardless of the topic.
