A little walk through Carburn Park in Calgary to work on my birding skills. Just got a sigma 150-600 sport this summer and have been practicing with it and my D800e. Highlight for me was seeing my first kingfisher, which are actually pretty rare here. Not the best shots of him, and I must say man are they tough to get anywhere near (big crops for the images) and man are they fast.
First on the docket is american pelicans. Never seen this behavior before where they were all dunking their heads under in unison, and in a tight circle.
Then I came across a little fawn that required a quick pcik
Next I ran into my first Kingfisher.
Long ways away in bad light, but I will take it as it was the first one I have never seen
I stalked him for a while and never really got a nice pic of him while he was landed, but I got a couple in flight that are not too bad for my rookie self. Still pretty heavy crops though.
Lastly there is the Falcon that was chilling in the same area as the Kingfisher. I "think" that it is a merlin, but if someone can correct me please do.
Watching that pesky Kingfisher that keeps on squaking and flying around.
Thanks for looking.
