I like this also. It's nicely composed and processed, with interesting strata, textures, clouds, trees and shrubs, all adding up to an arresting image. Nice work!

What kind of an island is Peaks Island? A park or refuge, or resort, or...?

Thanks Ben, Steve.

Peaks Island is the first ferry stop from Portland, Maine into Casco Bay. Population 6000 in the summer, 1000 year round with a 30 min commute into Portland. Two season cottages, some grand Maine homes, rocky coast with some sandy stretches. Generally nothing too fancy. We got stuck in three days of blowing fog and a day of partly cloudy weather. The ferry continues onward to a number of other islands strewn into the Atlantic.

Tightly cropped in steely silence, this image in its minute detail exudes strength.

Beautiful scene and you processed this very well.

The only thing I would suggest is to lower the brightness on the cloud on the left. Not sure how easy that would be to do, but being the brightest object in the image, it draws more attention than it probably should. A minute later with your shot, and the cloud probably wouldn't have been there and the tree would have been surrounded by blue sky. That seems like it would be hard to pick up on during the capture however since in color there is plenty of separation between the subjects.

thanks guys

Solarishead (real name?), I agree about that cloud and the timing issue. The challenge was not only the sky. There were many people scampering up and down the rocks alongside the water and this tree, entering and exiting the frame.
