Personal preference for #2 but I suspect a partial stack with just the stamen and anthers in focus would be better.

What are you comparing? A wide aperture, single from vs a stack is of limited interest.

e6, I'm comparing esthetics and saying both work for me in different ways. Narrow DOF to focus on the stigma, focus stack to let your eye roam over the details in the whole flower. In a slide show I really like to start with the first, then do a slow fade to the second.

The one I like better from those two shots is #2 as it feels more unusual, thus more interesting. In particular I'm drawn to the anthers, though they are a bit over-sharpened perhaps. A bit of softness, but not out of focus, might work even better - though of course that is all conjecture.

I wonder how a middle road would look?
