p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Trying to replace the clamp on Markins Q3 traveler

Hey guys,

I have a Markins Q3 traveler with a lever clamp but I want to replace it with a screw-type clamp to accommodate different size plates.
I found a Photo Clam clamp for cheap so I'm trying to swap them out.
Can I just unscrew the center bolt using a hex key? It does feel pretty tight so I assume it's loctite-ed.
Any tips?
Do I just unscrew it, attach the new clamp, and reapply loctite to the original screw? Do I need a new screw?
Thanks in advance.

i believed there is a thread on your question. and if my memory is correct, then the permanent loctite red is used requiring exposure at elevated temp to break the adhesive bond.

do a keyword search for markin is a good start... bonne chance.... :')

This may seem crazy but it worked for me. I have a Markins head that I took the stock plate off to put an RRS plate on. It was on there with loctite. To avoid placing the end of a torch directly near the clamp and ball head (that obviously didn't seem like a very good idea) I torched the end of an allen key and then put it in the head of the machine screw and let the heat transfer to the screw. I did this a couple of times and was able to remove the screw with not much effort.

Markins should sell the regular clamp with the fast screw or whatever they call it. The Markins clamp is keyed so it does not need Loctite, but you could use a little.

and I wouldn't use the red either since it is designed to be modular these days. just a dab of blue.
