p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Used Fuji for daughter.....advice

My 21 year old has decided that she wants to start shooting more than her iPhone. I bought her a Panasonic LX7 (great camera) years ago which she didn't take to. But now she's more interested and in a household with a couple Panasonic GH* cameras, a Sony A7 and my personal X-Pro2, she's gravitating toward the ergonomics of the Fuji.

So I don;t have much of a budget here. I would dearly like to stay at $400 or lower. My first thoughts are:

X-Pro 1
X100
X20

These are all within budget but as a new Fuji convert (I ditched my Nikon gear when the X-Pro 2 came out, Just got tired of lugging my D700 around and tired of staying with Nikon for 30 years waiting for a digital FE2) I know little about the other models I've listed.

Some guidance would be appreciated.

X-E2 as it is virtually an X- E2S when it has the latest firmware update. A great camera for a super price if you can find someone willing to sell one.

$400 including lens?

I guess your daughter likes the X-pro2 body style. Another consideration is the X-T10.

Have you figure out which lenses you're willing to share? ( :

I considered that but I think she's keen on a rangefinder. Will still consider it though.

Well that's a tough one. I think she can start with her own WhatEverIsCheapest/mm and go from there!

Although I would like to sell her my X-T20 Kit I think she should buy a used XE1 and 18-55mm lens. Can't go wrong with the results and simplicity.

Just find out if she is liking the X-Pro or XT style and then if she prefers the EVF or shoots OVF and go from there. My youngest grabs my X-Pro if he needs something (left eye shooter) but does not like the OVF. I figure he is a great candidate for an X-E.

How about a used original X100 (or bargain basement X100S)?

Actually the X100S was my first thought but I doubt I'd find one in budget.

There was one that sold a couple days ago for $400, and another a little while ago for $425 including some nice extras. Just have to be patient and keep checking.

Any interest in an x10? I have one in excellent condition and will post it on the B&S forum if you are interested.

No, but thanks for asking. I'm pretty set on the X100S now that I think I may get a good one in my range.

i vote xe-2 and 16-50 (much cheaper than 18-55). I'd say the 27mm but at $250 a pop it'd be over budget. Also, x100s can be had for $400.

I would recommend spending $100 more and get a used XT1. A hundred dollars may seem like a lot now but it will be nothing once she gets hooked on this hobby.
