This was one of the various wasps I saw on my recent walk in a grassy riverside meadow. It was eating what looks like a small sawfly adult (Arge sp.?).
The wasp is about the same size as a Vespula but, unless it is an extreme variant (no backward-pointing extensions of the black abdominal bands) of a Dolichovespula, I have no idea what it is. The yellow line around the top of the thorax is probably definitive but I have not seen it in any image on the internet.
Olympus EM-1, Olympus 4/3 x2TC, Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, 1/250 to 1/500 at f11, sunlight, hand-held.
The last two images are not so good but may help to identify the wasp.
