I can do 16mm more like 17 with my Breakthrough CPL and a thin 77 blank filter.

I tried a step down and it sees it early on.

I've been using 77mm ND filters (3,6 and 10 stop) in the field and it works great with the 12-24/4. It's very easy to attach them and they don't take much space in my bag. I highly recommend them as an alternative to big adapters (150mm filters) for this lens. The only downside is that I can't use it from 12-13mm for NDs. (and 12-15mm for the C-POL). I'm doing image averaging this if I want a ND effect.

Here is a sample using a 6-stop ND filter:

Here is what google translates:

【KANI】 SONY 12-24 mm exclusive filter holder
Sony 12-24 mm exclusive filter holder

It is designed to fix in a shape that sandwiches the lens.
Using an optional adapter ring makes it possible to use it for a lens aperture of 95 mm or less. It is a specification that listens to the opinion of the person who uses it to the utmost.

________________

So, it looks like a custom 150mm filter holder for the 12-24/4 G that can also be used with optional adapter rings for other lenses.

Correct me if I got this wrong...

Fred, I think that is a 150mm holder. I can't read it, but the photos appear to show 150mm.

I don't think there is any way to mount a 100 without some vignetting at the short end. I tried it with my 100mm kit hand holding a few filters at the end of the hood, and they become visible somewhere around 15-16mm if I recall correctly.

The mention of 95mm is because of the collar size and it appears that you can remove the 12-24 dedicated adapter and replace it with another one:

https://www.loca.design/product-page/kani-150-adapter-ring-for-95mm-down-ring-86-95-82-95-77-95

That one will then make it a 'generic' for any lens without a built-in hood.

This is one of the key points about the Nisi that I don't like; You can't remove the specialized adapter for the 12-24 and use it on other lenses easily. I worked out a way to do it, but it isn't necessarily ideal.

Yes, good point. If carrying 150mm filters, we better use them on all our lenses.

I will continue using my 77mm ND filters and for the 12-13mm range, image averaging instead.

Well, after carefully studying Nisi holder, I found that this particular one holds only two 150mm filter, and does not come with a built in polariser unlike Nisi V5 for 100mm filter.
