p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · LR - Problem Importing/Exporting Catalogs

I keep my master LR catalog on my PC desktop, but sometimes (like now when I have a newborn baby in the house) I edit some on my laptop, a MBPr. Usually I export the wedding as a catalog from one machine onto an external harddrive and then "Import from catalog" onto the other machine. I've never had a problem until today. I am trying to move files over from my laptop to desktop and it won't move them all. I've tried removing the entire wedding and folder/files from my desktop computer and it still won't copy all of the files. I only wants to copy over 219 of the 729 photos. They all show up in the preview screen and it says that "No existing photos" are found, but it is acting like 510 of them are existing somewhere. My head hurts. Any advice? I am open to any ridiculous work arounds.

I have the culled images from 3 weddings on my laptop now, in a general catalog. I export them as individual catalogs when I move them between machines though. It has never been a problem until yesterday. 😕

@ziffl3 You may have accidentally solved my problem. I deleted all of the smart previews and 1:1 previews on that drive, and I was then able to get my files to import properly.

I think what happened is that during my failed import attempt, I had plugged in the flashdrive for the deliverable images. For some weird reason, LR added this flashdrive to the folder tree and started dumping files there. I canceled that import, deleted those files, and when I attempted to re-import, that is when things got all weird. No idea why it did that, but seems to be better now.

Going forward I would recommend doing a separate catalog for each session/wedding.
Also keep your xmps turned on in case the catalog goes down.
Using a separate catalog for each wedding will make it easier to export the catalog (or build smart previews on import) and work on your other machine.
It also helps speed up LR a ton.
