Finally a 400mm Sony Emount! For some of us its been a long, long wait. For others, adapting telephotos have been at least a usable solution. For me, I can hardly wait. How about you?

Opps. #4 "No. Would rather have the Sony 13 F1.8 GM " should be Sony 135 F1.8 GM. Anyone know how to edit this?

Shame on you!
Regarding your poll...honestly I feel more like just getting an RX10 iii for what I will use a long lens like that.
Of course my particular needs for a long lens may be different from others so just sharing my personal view about it.

I have a 135 and it's as long as I desire and serves all of my needs above 85. So no, I will not be buying the 100-400 GM, but I came to vote in the poll and didn't have an option.

EDIT: I suppose I wouldn't mind a fast 135 from Sony, but I really don't have any complaints about my Rokinon 135/2 . . . I think it's the best value in a lens to be found.

I actually cancelled my preorder.....and I will be relying on a newly acquired Canon counterpart for the time being.

Well, the C lens is like 1G less and I have the adapter for it already. And lately I have been enjoying my adapted C lenses more so with the FW improvement of Metabones. No, the AF-performance doesn't quite match that of a native FE lens, of course, but close . The FE 12-24mm, on the other hand, in such a small and lightweight package is something that C doesn't have any answer for.

24-600mm. An interesting alternative for sure. But after buying the A9 I was already warned not to bring another new camera into the house. So my only other alternative at this point is to buy a new lens

I think the 100-400 GM is a lens I may be saving up for, but I will of course like to see reviews of it before deciding. I found the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary to be too big and sold it and the MC-11. Now I have native lenses only, and I think I will stick to that.

I have no need or desire for a lens over the 70-200 zoom for my Sony kit. I'm looking at a Nikon setup when I go to Tanzania next January.

I'm about 60% sure right now. Part of me wants to go back to the Canon 400/5.6, which, despite the age of its design, is still a very strong performer, and it play well with SteadyShot. My big complaint about it was the length, which makes it hard to pack for day hikes, but the $1800 difference between a gently used copy and a new Sony GM makes me wonder if I shouldn't just suck it up and live with the Canon's length.

And then there's a the Canon 400 DO II, which I now call "the lens I shouldn't have rented," because it's exactly what I want, but I am unwilling to pay for it.

So, I'm hoping a rental of the Sony will help clarify things for me.

Oh I hear you. One reason I like this is because the extra range and also I saw a test of the rx10 iii at 600 vs the Canon 600mm prime and was shocked to see how close they were. Of course the Canon body was not an A7R ii but still

Those three foot tall owls you wrote about are probably not going to knock on your door and ask for a portrait. Ha Ha You sir, NEED the 100-400. Besides I need to see how this lens does at the Big Bronco

I've recently divested myself of my A99ii & related lenses (racetrack season is over & I figure an A9, A7iii, or even 6500 will be in my bag by next season, along with a long lens) so I'm in the process of tracking down an FE 70-200 2.8 and 1.4TC. That's priority #1.

But it's still a tough one...yes I need a longer lens, and the 100-400 would give me good reach & flexibility with the 1.4TC which I'll already own. But then there's this mystery 400mm lens rumored to be coming, along with possible Sigma offerings, or the adapter firmware updates might make a Sigma/Canon lens an absolute equal alternative to native FE-mount.

Long story short is that I'm sitting tight for now on the 100-400, I don't have an immediate need so I've got some time to see how things shake out the next 6 months or so.

I saw one dive in they other day from a Palm Tree that must be a 150 tall and they are just so graceful and really deadly too.

If the A9 didn't come along I would have probably gone with the A99II for BIF/Sports myself. I've been very happy using the A77II + Tamron 150-600 V1 for the last few years while waiting for longer Emount lenses ( been a long wait) I am now hooked on the A9 for performance photography and if the 100-400 AF performance on the A9 is anywhere near what I get with the GM 24-70 on the A9, I will be over the moon. I still need 400mm+ for a lot of BIF I do, so am also hoping the 1.4TC is as good as what I am reading.
