Question: How'd you all justify the cost of the A9? Sell off extra gear? Business expense? Extra bookings? YOLO?

Sold all my Nikon/Fuji stuff + business expense.

Been using 2x Sony A6300s for weddings for almost a year now. For 10hr or so weddings, I'll change the batteries 1-2 times each camera. First roughly by the time the ceremony starts, second usually by the time full-on dancing starts. Don't really have an issue with this, since the battery percentage is constantly displayed, so I can time the swaps for a lull in the action.

To keep the battery drainage at a minimum, I have the power saving set to 1 min. Once it's off, as I begin to lift the camera up, I press the shutter, which gets the camera ready to shoot by the time it reaches my eye. I'll also drop the LCD brightness at the reception to help with battery life (and keep me from blinding myself! ).

As far as low light shooting, haven't encountered any issues that my old D7100 or D750 didn't. Especially with the recent FW update that allows lenses to focus wide open (previously used the current aperture), and me shooting mostly 1.8 and 2.0 primes. Rarely is a shot OOF (my biggest complaint with mirrored cameras). The A7 II/A7R II will have a tougher time focusing due to their slower AF.

I max out my ISO at 3200. Shots that high are relatively clean once light NR is applied, have good DR to prevent excess clipping, and color detail is still excellent. Pixel peepers might not like the noise difference coming from FF, but for the end result the client will see (scaled down to fit their monitor or phone; prints), there are no complaints. Should be the same for Fuji, since their current 24MP sensors perform similarly.

For colors, you're on your own. I created my own profiles to escape Adobe's ideas of what looks good. Adobe is extremely inconsistent from camera to camera in what they call their Standard profile. It's not standardized at all, and Sony seems to take a big hit in color accuracy compared to Canon and Nikon for no specific reason (I've matched color rendering from SoCaNikon without issue). Not that Adobe Standard is anything near accurate...

I shot xt-2 for a few weddings, then sold it.
Got the A9, shot a few weddings. Amazing camera, fastest AF ever.

However, going to sell it! Why? Because it's not a camera anymore. Feels like a game controller... no connection.

I am over with this newest camera thing now. No more need for faster AF. I shoot manually now. Leica M-P und A7s with 50 tilt.

Hahaha...

You would have been right, before.
But not anymore. Don't know what happened.

I commit to manual focus now as I learned that I get the shot anyway. I always felt drawn to Leica, so now as I do not need AF anymore that's it.

A7s for the bokeh and tilt, that's all. Oh, and 20 for the crazy dancefloor.

why? I love the rangefinder. I could never imagine shooting manually without a rangefinder.
