I made the dive to try the legendary Rokinon 14mm f2.8 manual. Praised for its sharpness and price, I was expecting a beauty but I got a terri-bad copy. The entire right side was blurry as hell no matter what I did. So I returned it and on Prime day I got the 14mm f2.8 Autofocus version instead.

From my eyes testing on a wall it looks perfect, but I'm not very experienced with lens testing. Can some of you more experienced lens aficionados tell me how it performs? To my eye, the edges look pretty good. Anyone else have this lens and can compare it with? What's your experience so far? I'm trying to figure out if this one is a keeper. Thanks!

First looks awful and second looks ok but it's hard to say for sure.

Yes, the consistency between left and right are MUCH better and I can't see much of a difference but I was also wondering about center sharpness and overall quality. Whether if the whole thing is blurry or not. Not too many people on this forum own this lens so it's hard to compare.

I got the version with the AE chip and had to watch a Spanish language tutorial on how to adjust the focus distance indicator ring. Mine showed infinity at 2 feet. Apparently they don't set this in the factory and just throw the ring on the lens arbitrarily. Once I got the screws off and got the ring set and re-tightened it, I can basically set the focus at 3 to 7 feet and shoot away at f4 for landscapes and everything is sharp and my infinity mark is now infinity. I really like this lens for some situations, but it is very very wide. If shooting a close up subject, using live view focus is the way to go. The AE chip sounded like a nice feature, but it basically indicates that I am in focus almost all the time due to the huge depth of field this lens has.

Did you test the 14/2.8 FE AF for coma? It would be interesting to know if it's just as good as the MF version.

No, I've never tested the lens for coma. I've never done a coma test before. Do you have a recommendation for an easy test setup? I'd be happy to try it and post the results. Unfortunately I've already returned the 14mm manual so I can't do a comparison.

I would say, that the AF one looks very good. Imagine 14mm at 2,8.
A starry night is a hard test. Wide open, small light sources.

But the night sky is the same for centuries, no need to take a picture of it.

I lived in Rotterdam, same problem there.

This is about the saddest thing I have read since: "For sale: Baby shoes, never worn."
