p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Trading in 600ex-rt's for Godox V860II?

I have been thinking very seriously lately about selling my Canon 600's for the Godox V860II (Flashpoint R2's) due mainly to the Li-ion batteries. I am tired of charging not only the batteries for the flashes but also the battery packs that I utilize for recycle time more than the additional battery life since I am usually at 1/16-1/32 most of the time and I am a heavy shooter.

I would like to hear from those who have used both systems who could speak how the performance (recycle time, battery life, ect.) of both compare but if you only have experience with the Godox/Flashpoint flashes (Li-ion only), I would value that as well.

Thanks in advance!

I still use both.
I have 2 600's for getting ready ...early morning stuff.
Sometimes I want to add some controlled OCF ... easy to do with the 600.
Then I can also have good ETTL if needed - for on camera fill.

I save the Cheetah stuff for receptions, e-sessions, bridals ...etc.

We switched over from 8 600EXs to Godox/Flashpoint and my only complaint is navigating the transmitter. We've moved to use in the in-camera menu, but I still wish Godox would release a second version of the X1, with a large screen and easier buttons.

The Godox flashes are better in every way, besides maybe weather sealing.

Iam nikon shooter, but its the same i guess.. i have the godox flash and there is a bug with the af beam. The beam is on 30% of images in case yur camera didnt get focus and you have release priority..

Golden Elephant in the room. Godox has moved to cross brand master/slave support. Fire your big (and small) Godox lights from Team C, N, and S — all at the same time. Yikes.

I'm still happy with Canon RT, but this is compelling. Like all things Godox, it's two steps forward and one step back. Might wait until it gets bulletproof before migrating.

the ad200 from godox is the flash nobody has. same size as a speedlight-essentially.
lithium battery... and is 2.5-3x as powerful as a speedlight.

no cables or external power supplies.
I have found it too strong when working in real dark(no ambient) couple type shots.

this is good stuff.

I use the in camera menu anyway. Got used to doing it in dark reception halls and it just stuck. Appreciate the input!

How accurate is the Godox TTL compared to the Canon 600's?

Yeah the usability of the transmitter is still poor and not that well thought out, profoto AIR this ain't. Like most things though, you get used to it.

We dumped our 600's for the Cheetah 860's and 200's and I have never looked back. So glad we made the change.

Not as accurate, to be honest. I generally have to mess with exposure compensation to get it right. Granted, I only use TTL on-camera, so I am not sure well it works when off camera

EDIT: was referencing ETTL accuracy.

How would you rate the battery life and the recycle time compared to the Canon 600's??

vastly superior. I could probably go three or four weddings without charging the batteries (even though I don't, but I will often go two). Really, though, it's the ease of charging (only one battery!) and the recycle time are what make the flashes the real winner. Plus, you can buy two for what you will sell one used 600 for.

I think this seals the fate of my 600's. Thanks for the input!

Stupid question, but how do you guys control OCF with the Godox options?

One of the main reasons I have not seriously explored other options is based on how freaking easy it is to run everything from the external speedlite control menu for the 600s.

Godox copied the GUI largely from Canon. I'm amazed at how similar it is.

Has anyone used the AD200 in manual as an optic slave, S1, S2 in custom functions?

I am more that happy using the canon 600 system when it is has enough power, wide f-stops, high iso in ttl.

When I need a smaller f-stop, need to bounce flash in a larger room, i would like to use the AD200 to fill in the "room" light while using the canon flash to light the subject.

I will not be using this in situations where there will be others using flash.

Any advantage buying the Flashpoint from Adorama vs Godox at B&H, when price is the same?

Thanks, John

I am using the mini r2 flash on camera. These are very small and light but do a great job of controlling Godox Ad200 flash. I often turn off the flash output and just use it as a controller.
