p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Longhorn Beetle Male

I was sorting out old images files to delete when I found these.

The quality is nothing like that of recent ones. For a start, they were shot as JPEGs. My camera was the Olympus EP-2 with a Tamron SP 90mm f2.5 macro, daylight exposure, aperture priority.

The date was 10 June 2011, such that the species was not new to me when I recently photographed the female. However, I did not then have my current main identification guide.

The male lacks the red colouring of the female and has a black thorax.

It could be another six years before I can get better images so I am using these now.

I have been checking on various male Longhorn Beetles of this general appearance.

It does not have the yellow tibiae or serrated antennae of the Red. Unfortunately, I have no size data for the beetle. There are similarities to the Fairy-ring Longhorn but I think there are also differences. We do have the Fairy-ring mushroom, on which the larvae feed, in our garden.

I have edited the topic title.
