Wow the 100-400 is one buggy lens
I may just work on a refund and skip it with all its issues

Apparently the amount of tension has decreased slightly with use. When new, it seemed to be just barely enough.

I doubt those numbers. Sony's site for the 100-400FE alone says it is 49.3 oz without the tripod mount. That's over 3 lbs.

My kitchen scale says my a6300 (with battery) with the 100-400GM weighs 4 pounds, 9.6 ounces. I'm not sure how precise that kitchen scale is, but it's reasonably close. That weight includes a small arca plate -- a few ounces.

Yeah, I made the mistake of going by Adorama's specs, they say it's 30.2 oz. I just weighed mine on a postal scale and it's 4 lbs 9 oz. for the combo with a wrist strap. Still a hell of a lot lighter than the 150-600 sport

Taken today with the FE 100-400 on an A6500. I used to shoot with a Canon 100-400, Metabones adapter and A7RII and this feel like half the weight

A couple of comments.

Don't expect fast/accurate focus at the long end with the A7rii and 2x, in that autofocus is contrast autofocus only. Only the 1,4x/A7rii will use phase detection at the long end. The A9 can use phase detection wide open with the 2x and 800mm.
I should mention that with the 1,4x/A7rii image quality improves at 560mm when stopped down one stop from open, If only the soccer players would freeze for a moment.

How can you have lens creep with the tension ring designed into the lens

Ok, it is starting to drive me nuts. Anyone know if there is a way to adjust the tension so that it holds properly when walking around with the lens facing down? (other than turning it towards "tight", obviously :-) )
Started off with no creep when new. Shortly afterwards it started creeping. Now, as I walk, I have to move it back every couple of minutes.

There is a locking ring on the lens near the mount exactly for that purpose.

rji2goleez,
As I mentioned, turning the tensioning ring to tight does not supply enough tension. The zoom gradually extends while walking. When new, it held fine.
Unfortunately, it is not a locking ring, just a tensioning ring.

ps, I know that others have mentioned this problem, too. Anyone find a way to increase the tension when in "tight"?

That would drive me nuts too. I am not experiencing any lens creep with the lens in Tight position ( so far). Just curious when you tighten the lens all the way to Tight position do you hear/feel a click like I do?

Mine, hasn't develop that problem, either. It is a good idea though not to carry that lens while mounted on a camera and let the combo dangle from the lug of the camera and over your shoulder while walking. Plus, it may put quite a bit of stress at or on the lens mount. That lens is not light-weight, we all know that. So far, I have been carrying it at the lens collar either using a rapid strap or using a Cotton Carrier hub/vest on my chest. So, the effect of gravity is minimized that way.

There is a slight feeling of a detent when it is turned all the way to tight.
Can you pull the lens or turn the zoom ring at all, when yours is tight, or do you find it to be truly locked?

I've not had a problem with the lens extending, but I usually carry by holding the lens. I just don't like the mount supporting such a heavy lens. I've used the lens to shoot a numbe r of youth soccer games and my only issue so far is with my camera. The A7rii shutter lag makes shooting fast moving sports less enjoyable.
