p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Unidentified, Attractively-Marked Fly

Yesterday, my cat indicated that she wanted my company in the garden. As she just sits around, I took my camera with me. It turned out to be a very productive, sunny afternoon.

This is the first of the species. I thought it might be a tachinid but it has quite a strong resemblance to a femaleGraphomya maculate, although it lacks the “false eyes” on the posterior of the abdomen. It has unusually hairy eyes. Any suggestions?

It was on an umbellifer (Cow Parsley?) and I have cropped out quite a lot of the white flowers. I had the Oshiro 2:1 60mm macro on the EM-1. I was shooting mostly at 2:1 or 1:1 (4:1 or 2:1 with crop factor). I used my usual twin flash. There was a lot of snagging of the flower heads and a x2 TC behind the lens would have eliminated most of that.
