p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Wildflowers and insects

For a change of pace I went into the wildflower garden at Oakland Lake hear in New York City. I chose to use my old Nikon 180mm f2.8 for it's beautifle bokeh and mounted it on my D500 which drove this old mechanical drive lens wonderfully. I spent two hours wondering this one half acre meadow and had a blast playing with diffrent compositions and doing flight photos of little critters.

Hi Bennet,

you show a nice series of pictures but for me the standout ones are the swallowtail and the bee flying towards the camera. On the latter I would have liked a closer proximity to the flower (if you are not adverse to a bit of digital trickery - and you already did a canvas extension - then you could try a content aware move to bring the bee closer to the flower, there is an OOF flower to the left of the flower in focus that may be well suited as a target position)... The swallowtail itself is lit beautifully but the surroundings look a bit washed out and are distracting from the beautiful butterfly as the eye invariably is drawn to the brightest part of the image - maybe you could try and take down the exposure a little bit so that the insect stands out even more...

Lovely set Morris. I'm really loving 5 and 6

Catching the little critters in flight is fun and challenging.

Congrats Morris - you have posted the first BIFBS I have seen posted here. (That's bee in flight butt shot.) This set is very well done and very enjoyable. 5. 6. and 7 stand out ~ Ron

Thank you Charly,
Moving the bee closer is easy and an interesting idea. I agree about the swallowtail photo and I'd brightened it in post to make the butterfly look it's best. Looking back I should have done that selectively. You have a good eye
