Photobucket is killing links to pictures on third party sites like FM. You either pay $60/yr minimum (I don't see a monthly option) or all your links are dead.

I'm really surprised there hasn't been a bigger kerffluffle on the interwebs about this? The way that they are doing it seems about one shade away from ransome ware.

I've been unhappy with PB, but have limped along with them. Not a huge user.

Are people just paying? Have they moved to new sites? What is the best site for 3rd party hosting going forward?

Even if I were to pay, PB rates seem pretty high- and I don't trust them anymore.

Seriously, no responses?? I can't find a single way to third party host pics. I just want to put the jpg somewhere and be able to put a link on a webpage and have it work. Imgr won't allow you to do that, google picture albums don't. I'm getting hacked off here. How in the heck are you supposed to third party host pics anymore?

I have no input as I am not a member. I guess the same might be true of most FMers.

You could buy a domain and pay for hosting like we all did in the old days before the socialism media sites fad.

Why blame PhotoBucket?

You obviously are using a service that they provide, but are unwilling to pay to use that service.

How about I borrow your car, just to toot around town. I will use your gas of course and hope you don't mind if I bring it back empty.

Me me me me.....

Actually, it would be like a car service taking you somewhere for free and then charging $400 buck for the return. Have you ever used photobucket? It was so full of ads it was painful to use. Banner ads everywhere, video ads during uploading. Ads all over while you work on the albums. It wasn't like they were working for free. I thought I was paying my dues by having to sit through all the ads.

And in the ultimate stupidity, they have the dead link icon, which doesn't link back to their service. Idiots.

I asked for a third party hosting solution and I get an flawed business lecture,

Next time, just pass over the topic.

I bet the ads go away for paying members.

Well ... if you don't want to hear a broad spectrum of responses ... don't pose questions on a public forum.

For $3-$5 a month for web hosting, $12 a year for domain name along with a free Wordpress theme for a front door if you wish, you can host quite a few ad-free images ... even utilize Lightroom galleries, and/or Publish Services etc. to keep things up to date on the fly.

The key is having the domain name so if the host goes south you can move somewhere else.

PictureTrail appears to host images the same as Photobucket. I have uploaded and posted the URL's to a forum and it works just fine. There is a 4MB limit for each image - it will not downsize, you must do this before uploading.

My observation is that most posts use the "Upload and sell" option. I don't recall what I paid but it was not much. Second most frequent method seems to be links to Flickr. Flickr offers an ad based free option. I don't know whether the free option allows links, but it seems unlikely they would be ad-free. The ad-free "pro" subscription is $50/yr.

I suggest you browse the site and see how others are linking. Follow the links to see what type of account they are using.
