My wife and I had our second daughter a few weeks ago, and I was yet again tasked with the challenge of packing a go-bag that had the stuff I would want to have for the 48hrs at the hospital, while also not looking ridiculous or feeling like I was working a job. Anyway, here's what I settled on:

  1. Nikon D800
  2. 35mm f/2
  3. 50mm f/1.4 Art
  4. 60mm f/2.8d Macro
  5. 85mm f/1.4d
  6. 1x Godox TT685N
  7. 1x Yongnuo YN360 LED wand w/ 2 batteries
  8. Manfrotto 5001b nano-stand with umbrella swivel
  9. MBPr 13

In the end, I got some good stuff and I feel pretty good about my decision. Used all of the lenses, but the 60 macro really shined. Later in the week after we were all home again, we were doing some newborn portraits. My wife made a comment to me once when I switched to the 60, "Shouldn't you be using a nicer lens?" I laughed and gave her a hard time about it. In the end, some of our favorites and the images used on the announcement all came from the 60.

Congratulations on a healthy daughter

I took a lot less, but in the end that was ok because the birth of our daughter involved an emergency C section and emergency transport of our daughter to a different hospital. We now take our time to make the pictures we did not take 9 months ago because the shock preoccupied us at that time.

Here is the first picture we took after daughter and mommy got out of the hospital

Nice! I brought a huge bag of gear to my child births as well.

First time, D700 and 50/1,8, second time D7000 and 18-55.

No regrets. Didn't have too much time to mess with the gear and after the delivery was over, I didn't even think about photography.

All I brought was my 810 + 35ART. Worked out fine.

D800e and 35 Art, here, 3-and-a-half years ago. Just did the job, while letting me focus my attention on the really important stuff (greeting the new arrival, taking care of wifey etc.)
