you can download an app to your computer to measure it's performance

it's safe
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/novabench/id411466132?mt=12

this is my 2013 Mac Pro
https://novabench.com/view/1279121

my 2009 Mac Pro (which is for sale) scores a bit better overall

last pic is avg scores for the MOST POPULAR Mac systems
I assume most of the top geeks are gamers.
So I was curious how my system compares with other photogs specifically!
cheers

p.s.
I only use LR for post.
CPU more important than GPU, but disk and memory even more so

My PC is fast enough for what I do. I don't need a benchmark suite to tell me this....

There is a Windows version, also. Like yours, it doesn't recognize my Nvidia GTX 1080 video card, at least in the description. However, the GPU speed tells a different story:

Yeah, that is it.
I'm still using the nearly 3-year-old technology of an O/C hexacore Haswell-E with only 64GB of RAM, one M.2 PCIe SSD, and 2 SATA SSDs. Most data is stored on a 70TB primary NAS and 64TB secondary NAS, both on 10GbE to two main computers and GbE to other systems.

this is a web based discussion forum
I was looking to see what other photographers will score.
no problem if you don't want to play along, though.

No, you started a penis measuring contest to see if you have the biggest...

If you wanted to make it even slightly photography related you could have by setting up a Photoshop or LR benchmark of some kind, but you didn't.

no, you assumed that. you don't know me. so you should have just "not said anything at all".
not sure hot it's not photography related.
I'll remember to look you up when I'm in Norway this summer, so I can buy you a snickers.

moving on.......

re: PS/LR, didn't realize they had something like that, do they?

Not bad for my computer that I last upgraded in April 2013 haha... video card from 2012! Yes, my desktop still runs the same windows 7 install that I installed in April 2013.

the 7970 is an amazing card
still older, but it just rocks for photography.

see if you can find one on ebay
and then sell yours when you're done.

How is a high power video card helping much for 2D? I usually install a very basic video card as I don't find any difference in the bulk RAW conversion speeds (Nikon or Canon) or for normal PS use. I have the last version of PS prior to the online version if that is any different. Thanks.

depends
if you're not experiencing any lag when zooming in to work on blemishes, and things like that, then you're ok!

I ran the benchmark, but it makes little sense. The CPU was at ~10% load during the testes, so I don't see how that is measuring more than a single thread. The fans did not even speed up so obviously the CPU was hardly working.

The GPU results are 736 and 1958 3D frames, so I guess that is not so bad for a little low-profile, truly single-slot card.

The hard drive results are likewise unclear. I usually get about 1500 MB/sec. writes and 2100 MB/sec. reads, but this shows 164 I don't know if that is 4K random or what. There are far better benchmarks for separate subsystem tests, but perhaps this one is popular for having both the Mac and Windows support.

The video is just fine with the 1920x1200 display, but I was hoping it would still be OK for 2560x1440. The card is a Quattro P1000.

My main PC which is an old 2012 Mac Pro that I've been upgrading as I go along. Picked it up for ~$1,000 on ebay, added a new GPU and some extra memory, and 2-3 more SSD's.

Interesting though, I have dual 6-core CPU's in the box, I'm wondering if Novabench doesn't handle dual CPU's.
