Holy cow!!! This update is amazing. I just updated and tried my Sigma 135 on my A9 (which barely worked, before with either the MC-11 or the MBIV). It now focuses like a native Sony lens... much better than the MC-11 ever did on my A87RII's... and using focus points near the edge of the frame in relatively low light!. There is no pulsing or servo searching and is completely quiet. I am absolutely blown away.

I assume that I am in Advanced Mode, as the frame is now gone after the update.

UPDATE: I just used face-focus on a bronze

I am using my A7r II and I did notice an improvement alright, especially the enlarged PDAF area, which is really nice, and the tracking seems to be a bit better but not close to what I would say to the level of the native AF performance but now I realized when you reported that above, you were using your MB setup on the A9. OK, that makes sense now....

Reporting from the a9 world. I said I wouldn't but why not pop an EOS lens on. I really didn't add the a9 to adapt lenses but I've got time to kill waiting on the FE100-400.
I put an EOS 70-300L. Focus at ANY distance, 5 feet, 20 feet, 30 yards, was snappy! I have been shooting the FE70-300G and I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference in AF speed.
Not all focus modes are there however but enough to be truly useful.
Next I'll try the 100-400ii.

Okay let's talk A9 for a moment. Just want to get a clear idea

Sigma 135
What AF modes available
Eye AF?
I think it defaults to Green mode?
AFS sounds good
AFC how's the tracking?
Focus hunting?
Pulsating back and forth?

Does it feel native like a 85 1.8 or 55 1.8

Thanks folks and sorry for the questions . I have to be sure if I repurchase. Already got egg on my face with Adorama

unlike previous MB updates, you can select from a bunch of options now on how you want the adapter to behave. Start on green box vs standard, mode for A7rii/a7ii, a6300, ect. Close apeture blades when camera shuts down. The software is quite different now. While much improved, still hobbles on the A7rii, not quite there yet in AF-C. Hats off to metabones for a ton of progress being made.

I'm still looking for an answer for my Canon 28-300 and the A7RII and the MB adapter, after being burnt by the MB 1 on my A7RI. Any answers by someone?

Both AF-S and AF-C modes work
It works best in Green Mode which means no Eye Focus, but Face Focus works great. Actually, it barely even works in Advanced Mode.
In my short test, I did not have anything moving to test, but I ran up to objects in AF-C and it continually tracked perfectly.
No focus hunting like the MC-11 has, even on the A7RII (honest).
No pulsating at all (really).
Yes, it feels like a native lens, but no Eye Focus.
As a note, I also tested on the A7RII and it did not work well at all, so Metabones is definitely taking advantage of the improved A9 focusing system.

Thank you. I am more concerned on the A9 than the A7rII. I have about 10 days to make a decision before I need it. So I can noodle on it a bit. Maybe Sigma will fix the MC-11

Gabriel, what focus mode and focus area were you using? I'm not seeing the phase detection area on my screen.

I was trying the same. Not getting those lines and it seems like I'm still getting contrast detection focus. Not sure why. Tried a few different Canon lenses.

You need to turn on PDAF area I believe in the menu. It just shows the bars

Looked pretty good. You don't have the A9 though correct.

Figured it out. I was testing crop mode yesterday and didn't turn it off. Sorry for the confusion.

This is a nice update. Green mode still works great, and when using AF-C and wide focus area it seems to lock on and stay on a subject a little better than before. Largely, green mode seems about the same, nice and fast focus.

Advanced mode is definitely improved. Although still CDAF, AF-S speed is noticeably quicker. Eye-AF works pretty darn well now also. I don't think they will ever be able to make Canon lenses work as well as native, but the gap is a bit narrower now.

All my testing was with Canon lenses. Did the upgrade on both the IV and the Speedbooster Ultra. Cameras were A7RII and a6500.

Agreed that this is a nice update. I shoot in Green mode on my A7R2. I found that the focus is best in the middle 1/3 of the frame. In low light, it will still focus in the outer 1/3 of the frame, but with some hunting. I could never acquire focus off-center, even in the middle 1/3 of the frame, with my old firmware (0.49). So, overall the performance is much improved. In fact, I was able to focus in very low light with the 40mm f/2.8 STM far off-center (about 5/6 the way to the far left, middle of the frame).

I tested the new firmware (0.57) with the 40/2.8, 70-200/2.8 II, 100-400 II, and 500/4 II. All lenses worked the same as before. I did not notice a speed-up in acquisition. FLs over 200mm still hunt unless you pre-focus, and then focus is instantaneous.
