Every year in early June the Rhododendron bloom in mass quantities on the tops of the balds and ridges in the Roan Highlands. It had been 3 years since I was able to make the trip up to what is becoming a very popular place for photographers. We arrived on Friday, and left on Monday. To get a good spot for sunset on top of Jane Bald, you needed to be there 3 hours early...and we made that trek twice. Sunday night rewarded us and did not disappoint...best sunset of the year for me, and one of the best I have ever seen, it lasted for over an hour, it made selecting an image to edit very difficult! I thought I would share a few from the trip.
#1: EPIC Roan-Sunset on Sunday night...it was just an explosion of color that wrapped as wide as the eye could see.
#2: Saturday Sunset from Roan High Bluff...this one was weird, the color was really delayed, with mixed clouds in the foreground, it made for an interesting scene.
#3: Mid day shot from Jane Bald on my way up to Grassy Ridge, shot with the CV 12.
#4: Vertical image of the sunset on Sunday, focusing more on the rocks that make the bald so interesting, and the color range in the sky.
