Pricing is lower than I expected. It's about the same as when they dropped the price to a realistic level with the SL1. No need to wait for a price drop.

Yes, good price for a compact backup body, and a realistic premium compared to the old SL1 (in Europe currently EUR 349).

I have seen different EU prices mentioned for SL2, but it can be pre-ordered in my country for EUR 609, body only. That's slightly above the official US price, correcting for exchange rate and VAT. This means the usual Canon rip-off for European customers has been dropped

Looks like it has the same sensor, Liveview AF and flip/touch screen as the 77D and 80D. If I had to chose now I would probably prefer SL2 to my 80D, given that for my main subjects the 80D AF doesn't offer much extra. What remains is doubts about the lack of AFMA and the quality of the viewfinder (the 80D optical viewfinder is better, but not sufficiently accurate for exact focusing either).

Hopefully we will soon get some more reviews of the new compact kit zoom as well.

This is looking to be a nice upgrade to the SL1 and the price is better than I expected. I like the sensor and flip screen based on my 80D use. B&H says my 35 macro STM should ship next week and I think this will be a fun little combo. I've about convinced my wife to carry an SL kit on our travels which will make a nice backup to my 5D# kit.

Besides, my granddaughter wants my SL1 kit. She'd prefer an SL2 kit with WIFI but I won't tell her about that.

Could be a great camera for static objects/scenes shooting at ISO< 1600.
The best thing about it is the imaging sensor pixel density (that's what 1DXII should have for the $$ they want for it ) and price.

There will be severe AF limitations with photography of any sort of action, but that is why the price is what it is.

Yes, and for action that is too fast or erratic for the AF system those limitations don't mean much anyway, and one should use MF/prefocus instead just like in the old days. MF may be more difficult due to the crappy viewfinder, but the low weight helps for tracking the subject ;-)

That is true.....once you are in the MF shooting mode by necessity, such as when shooting bugs in flight, might as well use an economy dSLR. However, there is a catch here: bugs in flight are better shot at 10, 12 or 14 FPS than at 5 FPS.
