You might have an interest.
My cat Milo at ISO 25,600.
What can you say about this image?

Thanks Robert. Actually an interesting exercise.
You seem to have gone the JPG route.
On page 2 of the first menu did you have high ISO noise reduction on?
Also where do the vertical and horizontal stripes in the OOF background area come from?
So, I would approach this differently.
I would start with shooting raw, lossy compressed, or even better uncompressed.
Then high ISO noise reduction in camera is ignored. Good that's what you want. I would keep that setting on Off.
When taking the raw image I would try to get the cat properly exposed.
In post you don't want to pull shadows up. That only increases noise.
Pulling highlights down in post is not a problem. That doesn't increase noise.
Getting the cat exposed correctly at ISO 25,600 is the way to go.
There will be quite a bit of noise at the pixel level.
No problem, we'll get rid of that later.
So I would use the latest version of Capture One Pro 10.
Keep sharpening and noise reduction at their default settings. We take care of that with Nik.
On page 3 of the C1P10 tools you can play with AWB. Ignore that for right now.
There are 3 color wheels below the WB.
The right most one has a slider for changing the high intensity light level.
If necessary pull that down, then go to page 4 for typical adjustments, also on page 5.
Then I send a tif file, 16bit, RGB to CS6. (I shoot RGB, not sRGB.)
First thing I do is use Define 2 of Nik, to smooth the noise in the OOF background area.
The noise in the cat is probably fine, don't make it more visible by smearing it.
I know if I shot with my A9 and 90/2.8 MACRO G OSS the infocus areas would be incredibly sharp.
So skip sharpening for now.
Back to CS6. Combine the layers, maybe try Auto Contrast.
Switch to 8 bit from 16 bit, and switch from RGB to sRGB.
Save the finished JPG image.
I am by no means an expert in any of this.
But this is how I get by.
