Whatever you consider, make sure it has file verification capability to ensure that its backups are exactly what they're supposed to be.
You might also consider the likes of Saladin or Total Commander to do routine file moves and copies with verification. File Explorer will not do that.
After a series of computer problems - more than you're likely to believe unless you, too, are cursed - I've also moved my operating system onto a removable drive (using a tool-less drive caddy) so that at any time while the computer is off I can simply remove that drive and put it into a external duplicating drive dock to produce a bootable working clone without having to use Windows to do it. The copy becomes my new system drive and so I can easily see that the copy has worked. If you use SSDs then the cloning is done relatively quickly. The smaller they are, the faster it goes, because it clones every sector whether or not it is being used.
Most backup systems produce large virtual drives from which a working drive may be produced. They require a Windows Recovery drive to let that happen while your Windows drive is out of action.
Also, in case you need it, Paragon sell a very handy utility called HFS+ For Windows that lets you access your old Mac backup drives pretty much as if they were Windows drives. Not suitable for the new Apple File System, or whatever it is called.
