Each year we have these Bishops migrate to our area, they are native of sub-Saharan Africa but somehow ended up here in SoCal. They're really fun to watch as they "flit" rather than fly, they look like a large bumble bee more than a bird!

Thanks for looking,
BOB

I heard there were some at Sepulveda dam, I should go and take a look !
Another interesting bird introduced here in S, California is the Nutmeg Mannekin. Seen a few in San Diego but thats about it.
Thanks
Colin

Thanks Fred and MrCollin, these were found in the river by SJWS. On a recent early morning walk we had about 15 sightings, some were certainly of the same birds but still a lot.

Bob, nice set of these colorful invaders. Beautiful birds but stealing habitat of native species.
These and others probably got their start as pet escapees or released for good luck, prosperity or
other beliefs in buddhism. There are at least 7 or 8 foreign species that are doing quite well here in So. CA.

Thanks Tim, I guess this is the equivalent of what's happened to the Everglades with pythons taking over.

Super shots of these little beauties...interesting how we pick winners and losers with invasive species. We love pheasants and chukars but despise collared doves etc.

This bird is gorgeous. Did you shoot them in SJWS and are they still around?

Hi Bobby, they're around the riverbed next to SJWS. A few days ago we had about 15 sightings in an hour.
