Update from the nest in Sidney (shot yesterday AM) of the little RT Hawk who believes he is an Eagle!

Predictions are that he will fledge within a couple days now... Then what happens is pure speculation.

For now he is being well cared for (and accepted) by his adoptive family!

Happy Fathers Day to all Dads out there!!!

Awesome shots Terry. I didn't realize he had 3 big brothers. I really should drive down there next week while I'm on the island but maybe it will have fledged by then?? The eaglets usually return to the nest for a month or so after fledging but not sure what the hawk will do.

I appreciate everyones views and comments... Thanks to everyone!

This is quite an amazing event.. Seems to have captured the hearts of many! Very fortunate that I am living nearby and be able to camp out as time/ weather permits to get some images!

While shooting there yesterday I overheard an elderly fellow (who's boulevard many photogs are using) .. One of his neighbours began chatting as he came out of his yard & said loudly.. "You know, all those cameras are focused on your bedroom window" to which the man replied "Ohh, I do feel sorry for them" sure made me chuckle..

Hope everyone has a great week ahead (I'm going to go back there tomorrow for another shoot, If the rain subsides. The nest is a looooong ways away from the road to be shooting in rainy foggg!

That is terrific to see! Glad to see they all get along too That is one heck of a sturdy looking nest. The crow flyby gave me a good chuckle, the eagle is not at all bothered

Amazing situation beautifully captured.

I too wondered about the hawks post-fledging world --- I'm guessing the safest course is straight ahead and don't look back.

Thanks for a memorable series.

This post made me smile. I've been wondering about this little guy ever since someone here posted the news article about this unique event.

So glad you have made this your mission to document it and share your images with us Terry.

Excellent work!

Well, the Sunday rain finally subsided and gave way to a misty overcast morn.. As I got to "The Nest" immediately I saw our favourite little Hawklet sitting alone out on a limb. I just missed clicking on him doing some serious stretches, but did spend several hours observing. At about 8AM he began crying loudly and one of the adult Eagles who was perched nearby came over and sat beside him.. This seemed to comfort the little creature.
I met a host of people today at the site and want to thank the local residents with their extreme patience and kindness shown to a group of strangers who have literally descended into their neighbourhood to see this oddity of Nature unfold. Thanks to the residents and thanks to all passerby's for your comments and wisdom! Cheer's Terry
