Wonderful shot Tony. How are you enjoying the 500 +300 combo.

Ah, good catch re. his new gear... I thought he had said it was still a few weeks away from arriving. But maybe we should give him a few more days to form his views. I for one am interested in Tony's perspective since I will be pondering the choices of a) upgrading my m43 gear to the EM1mk2 and one of the two long lenses, or b) investing in a DSLR birds-only setup, and the new Nikon D500 + 300PF is now an intriguing and equally light option.

Great shot Tony, I'm also awaiting your review/opinions on the 300PF. I know the D500 well but have been eyeing the 300PF for the past year and just can't decide if its main advantage of weight and size would be worth it to me over the more versatile and longer focal length 200-500 that I use now.

Thanks everyone. The 300 f4 PF is an excellent lens. Compact and light, with good results using both 1.4x & 1.7x
TC's.

Marvelous Image but wondering how you turn 300 MM LENS INTO A 500. d500 IS A dx SENSOR so shouldn't that work out to a 450mm. hcarl

No, you put a 1.7x TC on the 300mm and it gives you 510mm, 500mm being close enough for EXIF info. The DX sensor has nothing to do with it.

Great image as usual, Tony.

NIKON D500 300.0 mm f/4.0 lens 500mm f/8.0 1/500s 800 ISO -0.3 EV. VS Canon 5DSR 100 - 400 II lens 400mm f/8.0 1/500s 800 ISO +0.3 EV. would be more than a comparable image...
