Feel free to speculate guys. A leading member of the industry who is notoriously hard and demanding on his gear, is over the moon about the A9. What does than mean for trends going forward?

While I respect him and his love for gear, he's using a different camera every month. I'm sure the A9 is fantastic, but the A9 is not a D5/1DX replacement... but I would also say the D5/1DX really isn't a 'wedding photographers camear'

Ergonomics, reliability and lack of features/lenses needed by the sports world.

I heard Rick VanderVos did the same thing! But he's using a Sony A7rII as well! Crazy!

What will really tickle my bits is if someone like Steve Kemp or Jim Kreighoff goes mirrorless. Could you imagine!? I just might have to make the switch myself!

I don't know for certain, but I think these are made up. I hope. God sarcasm is hard on the internet.

I think you missed the point - yes the A9 is not really a sports camera because they don't have the lenses just as D5 and 1Dx are not really wedding cameras - they are too loud to be wedding cameras they are flat out sport cameras.

For me the biggest thing is the silent shutter E-shutter without Jello - no more angry church ladies. I can shoot music and dance performances that have lower audio levels not just loud music performances.

My experience is that the silent shutter (on my old Sony rx1) really makes your more conspicuous. I know that doesn't seem right, but it's a fact. People were disconcerted and literally stopped doing what they were doing and got outside of the moment to stop and address me to say "dude, are you actually taking photos? That is so weird". People expect us to use a big camera. It's standard. So anything outside of that makes you noticeable. My Sony rx1 and Leicas always drew attention because they were small. It's a total myth that smaller cameras are more discreet.

What I meant is, are we seeing an evolution in mirrorless cameras that can finally make them as responsive as dslrs? The A9 is priced above what I think it should be (in my not so expert opinion) but I'm excited about the trickle down tech in nearby generations.

Interesting! I'm a huge proponent of trying everything, not sure why people bash that idea. I'll check out his video!

Why don't you just say for you the D5/1DX are not wedding cameras. Tired of the attitude.
Some shooter like working with these cameras.

I know more than a couple of shooters that rock either of these cameras.

And needing small camera to be discreet..... nope.

You can use them as a wedding camera... not a problem. I've shot over a 100 weddings with a 1DX and it was great. However, the 5D4 and D750 closed the gap between them and the big boys. No need to have a heavy brick swinging from your shoulder all day when the smaller bodies are darn near as fast and suitable IQ wise. Are the D5 and 1DX a better camera? Yes, but for a lot more money, size and weight... all of which might not be the best for a wedding photographer trying to shoot 30+ weddings for 20 years.

Ryan Brenizer is an established and well respected wedding photographer which I think is why it's here. Just wanted to clarify.
