f/2 will do fine, and will avoid the majority of focus shift. Good job.

I believe you push the delete key. Works this way on the a7r original.

I don't have these newer bodies, but all this stuff sounds very cool. They seem to be listening! I know I'm jealous of assigning the live view display to a custom setting, I'd use that one a lot

To add to turn off to get to standard dial functions you need to toggle it off. At least I think so this is the case. Need to play with this.

Yes, there seems to be some nice enhancements that make this more like a traditional joystick function. Good news for me since I already use this as is often. I also very much like the new feature "After shooting, the focus area position can still be moved" Less clicks = more time not thinking about it and just using it.

They removed the ability to use the front and rear dials to move the focus area, But I don't think I ever used either anyway. "The front/rear dials cannot be used to move the focus area position" Again, back to traditional joystick approach. I like !

Bottom line they really took the feature set of the A9 joystick and implemented it on the 7 series through the dial and center button to activate and deactivate. Very clever and for dual owners it should be pretty good in our heads to remember.

Yes, but not when in [Focus Standard] mode, as far as I understand, which is the mode that allows the focus point to be moved all the time.

To change focus point size, you would need to use the [Focus Settings] button.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't have both at the same time.

Here what I found about the new [Focus Standard] after upgrade my A7RII:

1. I assign [Focus Standard] to the center button, replacing [Focus Setting] because 99% of the time I use flexible spot.

2. When enter [Focus Standard], I can:
2.1. Use up/down/left/right buttons to move the focus point freely (like a Nikon camera)
2.2. Turn the control wheel to change focus point size (switch between small, medium and large flexible spot), no need to use [Focus Setting]
2.3. All functions assigned to up/down/left/right buttons will be disable. To use them, toggle off [Focus Standard]

3. The [Focus Setting] function is now only used to change focus area (wide, center, flexible spot, expand flexible spot, etc...), so I assign it to the C4 button, just in case I need it.

Looks like I WAS wrong - you can have both at the same time. Glad to be wrong on this one.

Flash lag time improvement and a lot more. Someone has been listening. We've been screaming about some of these folks. Good to see Sony giving us these updates. I'll load up soon here.

Keep reporting any findings you see.

Consumer electronics have pretty short life cycles, you're lucky to see updates for 1-2 years then that's usually about it

Bravo Sony !
After addressing star eater problem, I wish they now turn to shutter eater problem also. If they can can change their ND replication app to work with the electronic shutter, ie.

RX1 got zero updates. Plus, Sony still actively sells all Mark 1 A7 cameras.

A7r1 would really shine with uncomp. RAW and spatial filtering fix. It would be again serious competitor to R2 and maybe this why the old series lack latest fixes.

Pretty much everyone does this, they want you to buy the latest version.

PCs, Smartphones, Cameras, etc...

Aww, no slog for a9. Not that I was using it on the r2, but would have been nice. Would have also liked to see the my custom menu function added to the 2 series.

Some great improvements all around though.

so still no new menu on a7 series?

I have a7rii and a6500 and both use different menu setups, it can get confusing now...

Can you still use the front and rear wheels to move the focus points when you toggle the af point activation? This was always the fastest way for me to move to a drasticly different focus point.

Why does this Sony update make the front page and not the borderline revolutionary March update for the Fuji X-T2?
