p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Hoverflies Sphaerophoria Females by Natural Light | |
This small fly (ca 6mm) was visiting some flowers on our patio on a recent sunny day.
Having processed the images, I realised that, having thought that I was following one individual very carefully, another individual (at least the last two images) was there later in the session.
I am fairly sure that the first on was Sphaerophoria scripta. Having struggled to identify the second one, I find that in the 2013 book “Britain’s Hoverflies” the authors say that the (other) females cannot be identified. Anyway, they are photogenic flies.
They were photographed at about life size and the images cropped.
