24G and 35G threads are close to dead, had I stopped contributing (which I most likely will if I decide to keep the 28ae)

I love the 28mm FOV, but I do think I prefer the Nikon 35/1.4G background rendering the best. I even find the 35 Art can be to harsh too. This maybe just the Jpeg's with higher contrast.

I posted a few thoughts on the idea of purchasing this lens in Corey's discussion thread a few weeks ago. I am borrowing some of that info and adding a few new ideas here in Elijah's, as there have been a few good points made by forum regulars.

Title: I feel that 28mm is probably the most versatile WA for a portrait/wedding shooter

20mm is too wide to shoot portraits of humans regularly, obviously.
24mm is interestingly wide but it'll never be wide enough to be a professional's only WA. it is not the best FL for humans, more distortion than most

I fought through some of this same logic about wide primes. Ultimately, I sold the 28g and 20g in favor of the Sigma 24-35A. I know it isn't a prime, but it feels like the right tool for the job. I still have a 35 f/2 for when weight is a concern.

The 28g is a stunning lens. I'm staying tuned to this thread to see if the 28e can really be enough better to make sense. First wedding this weekend with the 24-35, shooting it along side 50A/85 f/1.4d.

What aperture were images #3 and #6 above? It looks like the sharpness noticeably drops off towards the final 1/4 of the frame even stopped down some. You can see it in the lenstip resolution graphs. The center is so sharp that the outer edges never seem to catch up even close. Maybe just me. Optimized for center half portrait type shots. I think my 24G although not as sharp is more evenly balanced across the frame.

Love the rendering in your shots Elijah! This feels a lot more balanced for a 28mm.

For pure street photography the 28E would be superb, but for wedding photography/portraits I feel the 35G is a better choice just from a small sample of images so far. This may not be right as often lenses feel different when you are taking shots your self.

With Sony one of my all time favorite 35mm lenses was the FE 35/1.4 purely for the smooth rendering in the background.

While writing this, I was reviewing your shots with the 35G and for weddings/portraits the 35G is superb.

The fact that you are unsure is the answer. Normally with lenses for me, is that I am generally awed by superb lenses like the 105E, 70-200/2.8E and I don't second guess.

My problem in Australia is that the 35G used is less that half the price of the 28E so I may opt for a used 35G for now.

Tough choice.... keep both

You could have a pair of 1.4 used primes or a new 1.4e for the same price. Gotta pay to play- for the FL glass.

And with nikon right now, that's the way the cookie crumbles.

E, if you're not seeing a difference with the 28E... that's BC you're the <1% that can make it work with any of these tools. Maybe it's not worth a $1k premium (used 28 1.4e when compared with the value of your used 35 1.4). However, for some folks, money is no object.

Just look at the focal lengths and determine the best combination of glass for your workflow.

Either way, you're going to make magic.

For me, right now... I have owned four FL E lenses. Still have three. They are amazing. I prefer the new gears!
