p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Oystercatcher on nest

This American Oystercatcher was incubating it's eggs on Nickerson Beach a few weeks ago. I spent about 15 minutes watching it while it watched me. I'm guessing that the eggs have hatched and I'll try and sneak a visit in this busy weekend.

What kind of flash extender is that?

Very well done Morris, that nice low angle sure gives a better presentation of the subject. I like your photo eq. setup, it's always fun to see what others are shooting with. What's the manufacturer of the attachment that looks a bit like a better beamer?

Thank you Butch,
That is a Magmod Wildlife Kit (flash extender), One of the best extenders I've used.

Great low angle Morris. Would you consider cropping less on these?

Thank you Ted,

That would mean less focal length which is definitely possible as I was at 840mm. There is not a hole lot to the enviroment at that nest so it would be about the use of space.

Very nice work!!!! #4 and 6 are my favs. Some of them are cropped a bit tight for me....but I realize that's a very personal preference. Thanks for showing a shot of your set up.

Thank you Kim,

Sometimes I like to get in very tight and show things we normally don't see. I agree images showing the enviroment are frequently more pritty and tell more of a story

Great low angle and subject. Have you ever considered using a skimmer pod?

Very nice low angle shots. Considering the ambient light, do you still need the flash extender?

Super shots but aren't you worried about encroaching and flash?...she must be a determined mother.

Thank you Mike,
Na, if not on the tripod I go handheld like it's a rifle

If you are asking about using fill flash, yes it eats harsh shadows and creates catch light in the eyes. As for the extender when very close it saves batteries as less power is needed

These birds know me as I have spent many hears out there from when they arrive in March till they leave in late september. They will walk right up to me and watch me just as I watch them. I've had a mother lead her chicks right up to me and the other photographers jaws dropped. As for the flash, it dose not bother them and is much less shocking outdoors than when used indoors

Thank you XTerra,
The extender is made by Magmod and called a "Wildlife Kit" I've used just about every extender made and find this to be about the best.
