Feel free to share your macro shots done with your nikon (any lens brand)

Used a SB900 flash from right as you can see. The 200 micro is a beast...

Let me start with this pic of a begonia leav:

Nikon D810, Nikon AF 200mm f/4 D ED IF Micro, 1/20 f/11.0, ISO 64, tripod.

I'll play. I was pretty big into macro stuff for a while. Still am, just having a hard time finding good subject matter here in the Philippines.

I have not done much Macro always been a nature birding type photographer, with that said I would like to give it a go. I have 2 lenses that say macro on them, 60/ 2.8 and an 80-200 2.8 macro just wondering if these lenses would work? The 80-200 2.8 seems pretty big . Any advice or should I be looking for a different lens?

the 60/2.8 g or d-version is a true macro lens giving 1:1 reproduction ratio (or greater with extension tubes). however, the short focal length with a close minimum focus distance (mfd) may spook skittish insects. it is a very sharp and under-rated lens even for portrait, imho.

if a lens can produce a 1:1 reproduction ratio (life size image) or higher, it's not considered to be a true macro lens. i don't know the reproduction ratio of the 80-200.

usually, on telephotos, one can add a teleconverter on it to increase the reproduction ratio. the advantage is you can shoot skittish or dangerous subjects at a safe distance.

so pull out your 60/2.8 macro and put it on a tripod for macro. you will fall in love with the images it produces.

That is true enough, but here in the heart of Manila, the best I've been able to come up with is mosquitoes and they don't like to stay still.

A few adventures are planned, and the 105 is always in the bag so who knows what I'll find. Right now though, work work work.

Got a new macro toy. After first comparison it is clearly better than my other macro lenses (60/105mm). Must say there is a steep learning curve though so hope I will be able to master it soon...

Some of my first stacks.
Made with D810, micro 200/4 and the second picture with PK-13 and PN-11 extension tubes. It's fun!
