Hello,

My choice narrowed to these tripod.
The CT 3442 will be used with the center column.

I plan to use them either with Markins Q3/Q10 or Acratech GP

Do you think one is "better" vs others ?

Price is similar for both of them.

Thank you

Regards

Feisol for value + Acratech for quality. If you get Acratech, get the lever clamp (excellently designed clamp).

At the same price I would go for the Gitzo. I have two 15+ year old Gitzo tripods. Both like tanks. Still all but new. Easily will get ten or more additional years from it.

I also have a Feisol 3401, no it's not the same model as you are looking at but it's close enough. My Feisol is 9 years old and in rough shape. I may have a couple of years left in it.

I am actually looking at a used Gitzo myself and probably a 1541, 1542, or 1543.

You might add a Sirui to your mix. I have a baby 025x which is great for ultralight but too shot for regular use.

Good luck.

I've been using a 3441S for six, maybe seven years. I use it a lot. I even have three centre columns with different heads. I also have a smaller GT 0540 CF and larger aluminum & wooden tripods. If I lost or broke the 3441S, I'd probably buy another one (or whatever the current model might be).

The Feisol has the equivalent of Gitzo 2-series legs, so I would expect it to perform better than the Gitzo you mentioned in more demanding circumstances. I've had a 3441T since soon after they were released, and have a Gitzo 3-series as my larger rig. The 3441T is much lighter and a bit more compact even after replacing the Gitzo spider, and as such is more travel friendly.

My only complaint is that the Feisol leg locks don't function as smoothly as the Gitzo locks after several years, though to be fair I haven't taken it apart to clean.

As it turns out I just purchased and used an Acratech GP-S and it's a fantastic ballhead. It's more bulky than the Photoclam I'd been using, but the lever clamp is better made, and I prefer the knob layout in use to the Photoclam (very similar to Markins). The ability to quickly turn it into a panning base, without the need for an extra panning clamp, is very cool as well for a quick and dirty horizontal pano.

I have two Gitzo and the one i had used the most was the 2531LVL with its quick leveling feature. I needed something for a heavier lens and added the Feisol CT-3472 along with the leveling base. I bought a couple of Gitzo tripod legs but the quality control and choice of materials was poor and so both were returned.

In terms of build quality and rigidity the Feisol is head and shoulders above the Gitzo 1, 2, and 3 series, and on par with the legs from Really Right Stuff (I have the RRS TVC-34L).

A bonus with the Feisol is its short collapsed length for carrying on board planes and it comes with a high quality carry case (unlike Gitzo and RRS that omit any kind of case).

I have the Feisol 3441T and have been using it for the past few weeks. I bought it for travel/hiking. I use a Nikon D800E usually with Sigma 35/50mm f1.4 lenses; heaviest lens is a Nikon 80-400mm AFS. Also use a Chamonix 045n field camera on it. The Feisol is working fine as a lightweight and compact travel tripod, but I would not want it as my only tripod. I also have the Gitzo 1325 with AcraTech Ultimate ball head and it is solid as a rock. It weighs almost twice as much though. Noticeably more stable and less "tippy" with a larger camera & lens, and more resistant to wind. I have a use for both tripods.

Gitzo no longer has a lifetime warranty and does not honor them for those who bought when they were offered. Not sure if this means quality has dropped or not.
