Stunning images Kirk. The very best Black-necked Stilt shots I've seen. You have to be quite pleased with these. Now you are causing me to rethink my not having gotten this 200-500 lens.

The more one focuses on 'photography' instead of gear, the better the photographer It's all about you my friend, you know what to do and how to use whatever you have!

These are truly wonderful images and excellent processing. The purity of color and details in the highlights and darks is remarkable!

I enjoy these, thanks for going to 'Pond Sessions'...........very therapeutic

Stellar set, Kirk! Each is a beauty with great perspective, gorgeous light, reflections and clean water. Not to mention those agile and delicate-looking little stilts. Feather detail is wonderful.

No wonder you like that place this time of year! I'm just a little jealous as our similar places are already "skudgey" with algae, despite our cool / cold spring.

Enjoy that new lens; looks just right for that setting.

Thanks for posting.

Thank you so much for the very thoughtful and generous comment Kim... yes the lens is a keeper for sure.

Thanks Don.

Excellent pix. I always felt that the bokeh from the 200-500 was class leading and was easily comparable to the expensive primes, especially in good light. You have just proved that point right.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks so much for the good words. The performance of this lens is an incredible value.

My favorite is #4, something about the angles maybe, images look as crystal clear as the water looks. Must say I've never seen these, so that is something to see as well.

Thanks so much Bruce, the afternoon light this time of year is really good here, which seems to enrich the colors and contrast, and this lens/body combo does very well too.

Hi Kirk,
I think I might qualify under the "being around for a few years" criteria (although I have not been very active on FM for a while now). I always marvelled at how you got such great pics from your 300 and the TC and am delighted to view these great images and see that you are continuing your quality images with the 200-500.
Cheers and hope you are keeping well.
Martin

So great to hear from you Martin, and many thanks for your very kind and encouraging words. The magical light at my favorite pond makes it pretty easy.

Hi Kirk,

Man, I am just floored by these! So clear and crisp! You really know how to use light and angles, and your processing is so natural. Congrats on the new lens, although I've been seeing your work for a number of years with a variety of gear, and the level of excellence has always been there, so I know the credit goes to the guy behind whichever camera or lens is pointed at the bird .

Great shots Kirk. Wonderful low angle and good action from the bird. I tried hard to get good images of the stilt in Florida but couldn't get low enough without the risk of being lunch for hidden gators

Thanks buddy. Yes, most of the gear today can produce very good images when understood properly and used with good technique. You also have demonstrated that year after year. Thanks for the love on the images... believe it or not, most of my processing is now done with the very effective sliders in Adobe Camera Raw.
