I think "lens image threads" in the Nikon forum are shot with Nikon lenses. If you are starting a thread for a non-Nikon lens, you should post it in that manufactures Forum, in this case the Alternate Gear forum.

But who knows, it seems most anything goes in any forum here regardless of the category.

I find a Sigma lens "for Nikon" (a Nikon body, that is) thread to be quite appropriate for the Nikon forum. I, and many others shoot with a Nikon body and use Sigma, Tamron, and Zeiss lenses (and others) made specifically for the Nikon body and look, and have looked for many years to this forum for discussion, recommendations etc. The forum relates not to "Nikon products only" but includes, at least by usage since I have been a member, how third party products, lenses in particular, perform in conjunction with Nikon bodies....and of course compare to the Nikon counterparts. By viewing captures with the relatively new Sigma lens, one can assess how the lens performs on the Nikon body. This forum certainly is the appropriate venue for the subject matter.

It is about the lens so it doesn't matter on which brand of camera it is mounted.

nice images Dj R.

Tell us about the lens performance: Sharpness, AF, distortion etc.

Also I believe you had Tamron 15-30 before. Give us some quick comparison please.

I am also interested to hear about how Sigma compares to Tamron 15-30.
Thank you for this post.

Few cameras rival the D810's IQ so I'd have to disagree. Well played samples, Ryan!

From the Alt Lens FAQ:

What are "alt lenses"?
Most of the activity here on the alt lens board revolves around manual focus lenses, many from older and discontinued lens lines, but also a few new manual-focus designs (from, e.g., Zeiss, Cosina/Voigtlander, and Samyang). Even new Nikon lenses can be considered "alt" if used on Canon bodies

How do I use an alt lens?
For third-party autofocus lenses, operation is identical to native mount lenses. You will likely find more discussion of these lenses on the appropriate Canon/Nikon gear boards. The "alt" lenses mostly discussed here are manual focus lenses, so you will need to focus the lens by hand.

thx TM

I think for the money, the tamron is the way to go.
it has 2.8 and stabilization. it is fairly large.
if I had to choose between the nikon and the tamron, I'd get the tamron regardless of price.

if I had to choose between the sigma and the tamron, regardless of price, I'd go sigma IF the 12mm is of value to you.
12mm vs. 15mm is a lot > than you think! it's insane.

sigma 12mm to 24mm, I think landscape and architecture and interior

tamron 15-30mm same as above, landscape and all that, obviously... just not as wide, but still great, 15mm is quite wide on FF.
but perhaps you can double down and also shoot people more comfortably, with the tamron, since you have the depth of the tamron's zoom, 28mm and 30mm are not horrible for people.

the sigma is only slightly smaller, and lighter, than the tamron.
sharpness, they are both sharp! I don't think it should come down to that.
price and FL.

one thing is the Sigma is HUGE... it is bigger than 85ART. I can wack someone's head with just the glass of the lens. I like the sigma better than Tamron. 12mm vs 15mm make a big different.

I hope for shots with detail in the corners to be resolved such as grass, foilage, pebbles.
