Does it rate the billing?

Thinking about nabbing one,as a dedicated Fish lens for Bokehliciousness. Bodies are all 1D and 1Ds series, with APS-H being nearest and dearest.

Thanks.

Dismal light all day today and due the moisture,I opted to not throw flash around.

Hope to catch more colors in the AM. Tough to gun DOF compression, when solo and being nice to victims.

Canon 35mm F/1.4 L II weather sealing, just might be worth the tariff.

Absolutely live it to the hype.

The 50 f1.2 is an excellent lens, and I suppose it's a matter of taste which people prefer, but I sometimes find it hard to accept that the 50 f1.2 is still a bit hazy at f1.4.

The Sigma Art 50 is as sharp if not sharper than the 35 (to the point where you'd really have to inspect it at 1:1 for a while to figure out which is which, and even then a flip of a coin).

However the 50 f1.2, is significantly smaller and light for such a fast lens, and apparently built better, but I've never dropped one haha.

I have the 35 Art and can only say it is a magnificent lens and produces the best IQ of my arsenal (5 L lenses and the little 85 1.8). If you need weather sealing or have needs to stay with Canon CPS then the 35 ii is at the same level. For the use you intend to do why not a 50mm or a macro lens?

I find my 35 Art best about f2 or f2.8. I usually use it at f2 unless I really need the light.

Bought the ART about 3 years ago. Don't think I ever took it off my 5d Mark 3! Love it to bits.

Yes. I used a number of excellent 35's (Nikon, Leica, Zeiss). The only two I still own are the Leica Summilux FLE and the Sigma Art. Definitely worth the hype. It's a bit heavy though.

The 35mm on APS-H,affords 50mm-ish FF perspective and that's a nice place to be.

I've got fast 50mm's,but have the 35mm itch...so I'll scratch it.

Adorama got my loot and included the dock gratis(like most).

Hope to receive it this week,so I can run it through the paces. They generally ship fast and have treated me well.

Thanks again.

Sold the Art for the Canon 35ii. The latter has accurate and consistent AF even under artificial light, where the Sigma Art struggled severely at weddings (for shooting fish like shown here it shouldn't be a problem, though) and
the minimal amount of aberrations and even better sharpness is an additional plus. It is expensive, but worth it to us.

How often did you shoot it wide open? What distance(s) typically and upon which bodies?

Any images to share, along with the techniques used?

Thank you.

I used one on the D750 and D810 in the past and recently on the 5div (replaced Nikon with Canon for numerous reasons, not to be detailed, here). So we had two versions of the Sigma, for Canon and Nikon.
In addition we use the Canon version of the 50mm/1.4 Art, 24Art and the new 85/1.4Art amongst many other lenses. The 24 and 35 have the most hiccups in AF, whereas the new 85 Art is significantly improved.
We use the 35 for people shots between f1.4 to f2 almost exclusively, at around 4m to MFD most of the time (with the exception of group shots).
The older Sigmas show AF fails regularly (Focal showed about 1 in 8 shots completely off). The Canon 35ii doesn't have this issue at all, 99,8% consistency score in Focal.
The most difficult time is on the dance floor or at locations with a strong mix in artificial lighting, or when using flash with AF-assist light. Canon 5div proved to be better in my experience, but especially the Nikons had severe back focus in that case which drove us crazy. I sent the 50Art back twice until I got a copy not showing the same issue that drastically. We still switch to DPAF LV in critical situation with the 50mm. This is really an issue many forums discuss.

What do you mean with images, examples of mis-focussed images?

I was curious how you were shooting said glass and what exactly you were asking of it mechanically.

Most folks have been on a literal Sigma Hunting Trip, where focus is sought, but never bagged. I've suffered same with several of their lenses, but see their wares trending to a more positive note. Should it come to pass that the 35mm ART isn't reliable,I'll give it to one of the kids for more utilitarian pursuits, where trite DOF slices aren't the bread and butter.

Weather is glorious,so I probably should go kill a fish for dinner and bank some of this light.

The man asks for fish-ability... I deliver.

old 50 EX

Seriously though, I use it all the time and wrote a short review with lots of samples you should check out here:

https://gormteper.net/reviews/sigma-35mm-f1-4-art/

I have the 24, 35, and 50. All the Arts are great. The 24 is most reliable, the 35 has most character, and the 50 is the sharpest. Don't get the old 50 EX, which I also had.

If you shoot a lot of 35mm, then the 35L II might well be worth it. The Art is a great lens but it lacks in rendering. The 35L II is essentially perfect optically and also renders beautifully.

When you upgrade in the future, will it work with the next iteration of bodies? Some have already run into problems with Sigma on this.

I own the 24 and 35 Arts, and have an EF 50 1.4. Considering that they don't 'clean up' until f2-2.8 I have been thinking about consolidating in an EF 24-70 f2.8L II.

Funny how people still have a huge downer on Sigma glass, despite all the evidence to the contrary... If you can't get sharp images at 2.8 with the 24, and 35 there is something wrong with your technique. I use all mine wide open without issues..

But you go for the two stops slower zoom... chalk and cheese.
