Thank you Ron! I can only wish it would be possible to get lower, but this was taken at the Salton Sea. The "beach" there isn't sand but the shells of tiny organisms, and there are ridges up and down all the way to the water. I had to position myself at the lowest point and wait (and wait) for the birds to come back again to the feeding pools.

Thank all of you for your kinds words! I adore Stilts and always get excited when I see them. Sadly, the Salton Sea is deteriorating rapidly, and where there were once hundreds of Stilts, Pelicans, Egrets, Herons, Grebes, etc., there are relatively few left. The lake is toxic and the fish have been dying off.

Bob, I do need to get back there. My only concern is that it's difficult to get eye level with the birds. The same problem is with Bolsa Chica. However, both locations have wonderful sightings!

You're right, that bothers me sometimes as well but not all birds are down in the ponds!

I'm trying to think of an area there where you can get down low. I will say that I've been able to shoot a couple of nice photos of Tree Swallows but I did have to shoot up a bit.

Indeed, and you've done good work showing this one off, Melissa! They're not likely to be in my part of the world so this is a treat to see.

Nicely done; thanks for posting.

I agree with Ron's thoughts. Melissa, there are times when a more desirable shooting angle would enhance but the mettle of a good photographer is to get the best possible shot of what is available.

Excellent shot.

Thank you all so much! I keep hoping to get a wonderful shot of post mating behavior of the Stilts, but so far that has eluded me! Next Spring...
