While talking with a friend, I saw these geese bringing their goslings to forage on shore. All was peaceful until another pair of geese chased the parents away and seemed to be attacking the goslings! Fortunately, all ended well but it was quite a spectacle.

If anyone has an explanation of this behavior I'd love to hear it!

Coming to shore

Life is good for the goslings!

After chasing the parents away, this goose seemed to attack the goslings

Frightened goslings were reunited with Mom

And all was well again.

Apparently more experienced parents have been known to 'kidnap' goslings from less experienced parents so maybe you saw something similar, but I would not have though that would be mistaken for attacking them.

Very interesting activity, I've never witnessed this behavior. But I can say, some very nice work with the photos.

Thanks for all the comments, I hadn't heard of the kidnapping before but in this case the goslings were given back after the goose pecked pretty aggressively at them. I was afraid they would be killed but that didn't happen fortunately.

Possibly they were getting too close to mom still sitting on a nest

Thanks Morris, that may be possible but I haven't heard of a nest in the area, this happened in a place where people go all day long.
