Dihydrogen monoxide is a known toxic substance. You can't breath it .. when mixed with ethanol and consumed, the result may lead to intoxication, a condition that leads to erratic and dangerous behavior ..

It dissolves iron and when heated results in the release of dihydrogen monoxide vapor, a known "Greenhouse" gas that can destroy the planet.

Anyone that has consumed pure dihydrogen monoxide has not lived much over a century .. it's a slow killer. If you add a neutron to the hydrogen part of the substance, it can be used in nuclear reactions .. and we all know what that may result in.

Dihydrogen monoxide contamination in our lakes, streams and oceans is no joking matter. I would never make light of such a toxic substance.

Not even close. The LD50 for dihydrogen monoxide is about 0.08 liters/kg. Contrast that to the LD50 for botulinum toxin which is about 5 nanogram/kg. Even arsenic is 13 mg/kg. So dihydrogen monoxide is a poor choice for a poison.

Dihydrogen monoxide (also known as hydric acid) is responsible for injury, death, and property damage all over the world.

What are some of the dangers associated with DHMO?

Some of the known perils of Dihydrogen Monoxide are:

Death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities.
Prolonged exposure to solid DHMO causes severe tissue damage.
Excessive ingestion produces a number of unpleasant though not typically life-threatening side-effects.
DHMO is a major component of acid rain.
Gaseous DHMO can cause severe burns.
Contributes to soil erosion.
Leads to corrosion and oxidation of many metals.
Contamination of electrical systems often causes short-circuits.
Exposure decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes.
Found in biopsies of pre-cancerous tumors and lesions.
Given to vicious dogs involved in recent deadly attacks.
Often associated with killer cyclones in the U.S. Midwest and elsewhere, and in hurricanes including deadly storms in Florida, New Orleans and other areas of the southeastern U.S.
Thermal variations in DHMO are a suspected contributor to the El Nino weather effect.

While the more significant dangers of Dihydrogen Monoxide are currently addressed by a number of agencies including FDA, FEMA and CDC, public awareness of the real and daily dangers of Dihydrogen Monoxide is lower than some think it should be.
