p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Alternative power packs for Profoto lights?

I want to buy a profoto ring flash from a friend, but want to find an alternative power pack for running the light to save some money. It will be my only profoto head and I won't be shooting with it that often, just in the studio.

I currently shoot all einstein strobes with the vagabond. I read that dynalite packs might work but I was looking to see if there are any other alternatives. Older power packs would be fine.

Profoto heads can be driven by an alternative brand of pack that has been converted, but isn't likely to save money. Best to find a used Profoto pack and any older pack will serve, including the battery models.

Is it an Acute ring-light, or a Pro ring-light They take different packs.

Silvinos-Pro-flash-Rx can answer what works with what. They may know of good packs for sale. https://www.yelp.com/biz/silvinos-pro-flash-rx-los-angeles?adjust_creative=dWJMtmYxpd5N5yoyzSuhtA&utm_campaign=yelp_api&utm_medium=api_v2_business&utm_source=dWJMtmYxpd5N5yoyzSuhtA

It's a pro ring-light that I'm looking at buying, for clarification.

Your low-cost options are the Pro-7 A/C pack or the Pro-7B battery pack, both discontinued. eBay and the usual shops (Roberts, KEH) will have plenty of units in various conditions. The newer ProRing has a modelling light that makes an A/C pack the better choice.

I believe Profoto pro heads can be rewired to work with Hensel Porty gennies. I actually believe there are adapter cables in existence but are very rare to pop up on the market.
