A few from the HIGPA this past weekend. Had some rain in the AM for the Porsche GT3 Cup race but it cleared & was nice & cool for the IndyCar race. Josef Newgarden (#2 Team Penske) won the race after #12 Will Power had led for most of the race.

Hey, you can go & shoot with an admission pass. There are a few good spots on the hills to shoot from with a long lens but it got much more difficult to find good places after IndyCar started running there & had the catch fencing put up all the way around the track.
It's a great place to go- the track & grounds are beautiful & the Museum has doubled its size last year. There were 1000-1300 vintage motorcycles in the first building & I'm not sure what the total is now.
The Barber Historics race is next month (5/19- 5/21) & there are some pretty cool vintage cars at that. It's a lot more relaxed than the Indy is & would have some good photo opportunities.

It's kind of boring to watch on TV since there aren't many passing areas with all the turns. They only have 3 longer straights & the max speed is pretty much about 160 mph. It is a beautiful track to be at- like a park. It is more exciting if you are driving rather than watching- I've done several track days there & it keeps you busy.
Here is a video of Ryan Hunter-Reay doing a couple of laps with telemetry overlays. It's crazy to see how fast they are going thru the different areas compared to how fast I was going.

Yeah, it was under very variable conditions. In the AM it was raining then misting then partly cloudy & back to mist & in the afternoon it ranged from mist to cloudy to partly cloudy to full sun- back & forth all day. I shot in JPEG Auto1 WB with all the variation (I initially tried Cloudy WB but conditions changed too often) & really didn't do much post- processing except for slight exposure adjustment & cropping. Conditions were pretty crummy a lot of the time except for the later afternoon- had to change settings all the time.
Nothing says wow. Slow down the shutter speed, dont crop a car, there is no use for that. Avoid stuff in the background. I know, easier said than done but avoid what you can.
