I only started this photography game as a tool to help my birding. I didn't know it would become so addictive in it's own right and it has now become almost the only way that I bird these days. I find that I carry my Bins less and less, and rarely do I take field notes anymore. I find the camera doing nearly all of my work for me, the additional weight isn't always helpful but the ease of identification makes it all worthwhile. My 7D is starting to show it's age a bit now and the noise is more noticeable than some of the newer cameras, but it still does a nice enough job. So far this year I have managed to capture 174 species in reasonable quality within the three counties around where I live. So from my perspective at least, 2017 is shaping up to be a good year for the birds.

Nice shots. I'd never seen a crested caracara before. Which lens are you using? I'm looking to buy a 7d II and possibly replace my 70-300 L with a 150-600mm this year.

Thanks for the compliment. I'm using a Sigma 150-600 Sport. It does a great job for me. The only "slight" fault I have with mine is it is softish at 600mm and infinity. In close (under 25yards) it's sharp. In now torn between upgrading to a 7D2 or a used 1D or even a used 5DS. The original 7D can't compare with the newer models in low light or high ISO.

Nice work and congrats on 174 already this year. I came to birds from the other way round...bought a camera...eventually shot some birds...got addicted and then started doing more birding along with photography although still for me it is about a good image more than just seeing or hearing a bird.
