p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Turning of the fagus, Cradle Mountain, Tasmania

I spent some time in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park in Tasmania, Australia recently. In late April / early May you can witness the fagus tree - effectively a shrub - change colours with the autumn. Cradle Mountain has some stunning displays of this in particular.

Here is one image I captured on the trip. This was taken not long before sunset and is a three image focus stack using an A7RII and Loxia 21mm.

Very nice. I love the mountains in the distance too.

Very nice but something about the content of the image makes me finding myself wishing it were a horizontal composition

Thanks, although I did try a horizontal composition as well for various reasons it was not appropriate. Portrait ultimately worked much better for me there.

______
Me too. Say, is the Tasmanian devil extinct, or might some be lurking in these parts?

Thanks. The devil is not extinct, no. You are thinking of the Tasmanian Tiger, which is. I did actually see one or two Tasmanian Devils in the national park on this trip.

Cheers. It's a spectacular area; in fact the entire state of Tasmania is, really.

Very nice and I like the vertical composition anchored by the bush.

Tasmanian Devils are alive and lurking all around Tasmania.

However, in recent times there has been a disease which threatened their species. Much work has been done by many scientists and environmental people with recent positive results so far. They are still threatened but there is hope on the horizon.

Perhaps you were thinking of the Tasmanian Tiger which is now extinct?

Cheers,

Ah the Fagus. I believe it's Australia's only native deciduous "tree". I can't wait to see it in person although I've no idea when that will be. Thanks for sharing your beautiful image and interpretation.

Great to see Cradle Mountain from a different perspective than the boat shed!
