Probably 4th or 5th visit - each time I see something different.

Comments appreciated,

Bob

A bit too much contrast / "graphic" on this one for me. Kinda blown / blocky makes it hard to view the nuance / detail contained in the scene.

here is the color ---

maybe the mono is a round-peg in square-hole situation - maybe someone else can do more with it?

B&W seems appropriate for the subject, but the color does show more. Maybe a lighter conversion.

Maybe something in a reduced sat with an overtone vs. not a full mono.

Nice, should have stayed with the in-camera conversion

Thanks for the suggestion,

<edit> Apologies to the B&WV viewers - cross-posting to Photo Critique has probably generated more chatter than you're accustomed to or interested in - I'll keep posts separate in the future.

I like the style but I agree with Kent, a bit too blocked up.
Among the reworks, I like the color. The mantle draws the eye, assists in setting a primary subject. But the monotones certainly capture a period mood that I know runs through your work and fits this site particularly well.
That bright light thru the window is a challenge that I think the monotones handle better than the color.

Back story - chance to explore afternoon light. To do properly, should have used tripod, cable release, and ISO surely lower than 6400. Maybe next time

Thanks for your thoughts,

Bob

Hi Bob, I guess I'll join in and kick you while you're down .
For me (and perhaps me only!) I'd crop the left to the grinder with just a touch of the window showing. IMO, the window light just overpowers everything else but maybe that was your intention?
BTW, where is this plantation located? I'd like to go there.
Best regards,
John

I love the first one. Reveals just enough detail to make you wonder what is in the shadows. Sometimes revealing all spoils the curiosity.

With perhaps a wee bit of retouching and jiggery pokery?
