Hi Melissa...

As others have said, welcome to FM. Your first post is a terrific one that shows why burrowing owls are usually on wildlife photographers' bucket list. Very nice work.

I took a look at your web site, and you have a great range of wonderful photographs. I look forward to your future posts.

Thanks

Melissa:

Everyone else told you what a lovely shot you posted. I agree. Next time as a thought, try to get a lower shooting angle if you can..

Welcome.

Welcome aboard, Melissa. We're not all outstanding photographers. Some of us just like to hang out with those who ARE outstanding photographers. I'll look forward to seeing more.

Welcome and congrats on your first posting!

Certainly a nice image and fun subject
As you continue with posting just think of the things you have seen in other posts here that really attract you to an image, is the angle, the colors, the BG etc.

Since you asked for crits on this fine image, the areas for improvement are IMO as mentioned by Ted for one would be an even lower angle. Benefit is more of dissolving foreground and BG. Next would be softer light that would diminish the hard shadows, benefit is less distraction from the subject itself. With that being said you are off to an excellent start and I am sure you will produce and share some fine work!
Enjoy
Karl
